Is the Kia Sonet worth the premium it commands?

Kia is going a bit overboard with the pricing, I think. Yes, you get a lot of features, but at the end of the day, it’s still a sub 4m SUV. You could get a decent mid size SUV with more space and road presence for 18 lakhs.

I find the Sonet worth every penny as a tech and comfort features person. In this segment, where else do you get ventilated seats, huge touchscreen, ADAS? It's like a mini luxury car.
Is the Kia Sonet worth the premium it commands?
03 January 2025 12:35
The problem is Kia has priced the Sonet in a segment where it doesn’t belong. Now it's competing with larger cars, and that's a tough sell no matter how many features you pack in.
Is the Kia Sonet worth the premium it commands?
03 January 2025 12:35
People are missing the point, I think. The Sonet isn’t just about the features, it’s about the complete package. It offers a quality, refinement and driving experience a step or two above most rivals. That’s what you’re paying for.
Is the Kia Sonet worth the premium it commands?

It's all about priorities. The Sonet is good if you want the latest tech and are willing to give up a bit of space. If you need a practical family car though there are better options at this price.
Is the Kia Sonet worth the premium it commands?

I didn't want to pay the price, but test driving the Sonet and a couple of the other larger SUVs, I decided on the Sonet. The features and quality make the daily drive so much more enjoyable. No regrets.
Is the Kia Sonet worth the premium it commands?

The best value is had by the base and mid variants of the Sonet. The value proposition gets questionable once you get to the top trims. If you want the Sonet experience, but don’t want to break the bank, stick to the lower variants.
The question is how does the Kia Sonet's build quality stack up against its rivals?
03 January 2025 12:35
I've had a Nexon and now a Sonet and, honestly, the Sonet just feels as solid as the Nexon. The doors close with a nice thud and there is no tinny feel to the body panels. The build quality concerns are overblown, I think.
The question is how does the Kia Sonet's build quality stack up against its rivals?

And let's be real, it's all speculation until we see a proper crash test. This is worrisome, though, considering that competitors such as the Nexon and XUV300 have a 5 star safety rating.
The question is how does the Kia Sonet's build quality stack up against its rivals?

I think people get good interior quality confused with overall build quality. The Sonet has nice soft touch materials inside, sure, but that doesn't necessarily make it structurally strong.
The question is how does the Kia Sonet's build quality stack up against its rivals?

After having test driven most cars in this segment, I feel build of the Sonet is on par with the Venue and Brezza. It's not as tank like as the Nexon, but it's far from flimsy.

The older model definitely feels more solid than the 2024 facelift. The fit and finish is better than before and Kia has seemingly fixed some the panel gap issues.
The question is how does the Kia Sonet's build quality stack up against its rivals?

I can vouch for Sonet’s build quality as a person who has been in a minor fender bender with my Sonet. The car did really well with very little damage. Real world performance is not just about crash tests.
The question is how does the Kia Sonet's build quality stack up against its rivals?

I believe we can’t just stop at the body anymore. The Sonet's suspension components and chassis seem very stiff. You couldn’t ask for a better built vehicle, and it handles bad roads without rattles or squeaks.
How are Fronx interiors better than or at par with Hyundai Venue or Kia Sonet?

Maruti has really stepped up their game with the Fronx I think. However, the interior does feel a lot more premium than older Marutis, though it isn’t quite at Hyundai’s level.
How are Fronx interiors better than or at par with Hyundai Venue or Kia Sonet?

I have sat in all three and my opinion would be that the Venue and Sonet still have an edge. It’s just that the materials feel a bit more plush, especially in the top trims.
How are Fronx interiors better than or at par with Hyundai Venue or Kia Sonet?

For its price point, the Fronx interior is perfectly fine. It’s not going to be as flashy as the Korean cars, but it’s functional and well put together.
How are Fronx interiors better than or at par with Hyundai Venue or Kia Sonet?
31 December 2024 07:55
The Fronx’s design is actually cleaner and simpler and that’s what I prefer. Sometimes the Venue and Sonet interiors feel a bit busy and overdone.
How are Fronx interiors better than or at par with Hyundai Venue or Kia Sonet?

I’m a Fronx owner and the quality is impressive. It’s not luxury car level, but it doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy. The touchpoints are nice.
How are Fronx interiors better than or at par with Hyundai Venue or Kia Sonet?

While the Fronx definitely loses the wow factor to the Koreans, I think the interior is a little more ergonomic and easier to live with day to day.
