The question is how does the Kia Sonet's build quality stack up against its rivals?
Indian car buyers are getting more concerned about build quality and safety and the compact SUV segment is no different. Kia Sonet though popular for its features and style, has come in some bad light when it comes to its structural integrity. The debate on the Sonet's build quality has kicked up further with enthusiasts and potential buyers debating whether it is better than rivals such as Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV300. The Sonet feels solid and well built, is the argument of some, while others highlight that the car doesn't have a formal crash test rating. The talk also covers the fine balance between feature rich interiors and structural strength, and whether Kia has done anything to improve the 2024 facelift model. What we are trying to ask to the owners and the experts here is that how they feel that the Sonet is durable in real world and whether it is as safe as the competitors.
I've had a Nexon and now a Sonet and, honestly, the Sonet just feels as solid as the Nexon. The doors close with a nice thud and there is no tinny feel to the body panels. The build quality concerns are overblown, I think.
And let's be real, it's all speculation until we see a proper crash test. This is worrisome, though, considering that competitors such as the Nexon and XUV300 have a 5 star safety rating.
I think people get good interior quality confused with overall build quality. The Sonet has nice soft touch materials inside, sure, but that doesn't necessarily make it structurally strong.
After having test driven most cars in this segment, I feel build of the Sonet is on par with the Venue and Brezza. It's not as tank like as the Nexon, but it's far from flimsy.
The older model definitely feels more solid than the 2024 facelift. The fit and finish is better than before and Kia has seemingly fixed some the panel gap issues.
I can vouch for Sonet’s build quality as a person who has been in a minor fender bender with my Sonet. The car did really well with very little damage. Real world performance is not just about crash tests.
I believe we can’t just stop at the body anymore. The Sonet's suspension components and chassis seem very stiff. You couldn’t ask for a better built vehicle, and it handles bad roads without rattles or squeaks.
