Will the higher potential price tag of the Ai3 eat into Hyundai's own sales of the Grand i10 Nios?

In fact, this could actually work in Hyundai's favor. The Ai3 might be what they come in for, but if they're cheaper they'll buy the Nios. It’s always good for more footfall in showrooms.

I fear this will result in cost cutting on the Ai3 to keep prices apart. I hope they won’t sacrifice on quality.

The real question is what this means for Venue. If the Ai3 is so good, perhaps it will cannibalize Venue sales and not Nios sales.

Don't forget that hatchbacks do still have their advantages: easier to park, better fuel efficiency. There’s still a case to be made for the Nios to attract a particular segment of buyers.

This may be part of a bigger plan to retool Hyundai's whole lineup. We could see bigger changes coming in the next few years across all segments.
Is the Casper in disguise as the Hyundai Ai3?
02 January 2025 07:05
Come on, guys. Obviously it's just a new face on a Casper. No, Hyundai isn’t fooling anyone here.
Is the Casper in disguise as the Hyundai Ai3?

I disagree. As you can see from the spy shots they are quite a few differences. The split headlamp design we're seeing on other new Hyundais and the longer, taller Ai3 look more like it.

So what if it’s based on the Casper? Now, the Casper is a cool little car. I'm all for Hyundai bringing that DNA to India with some market specific tweaks.
Is the Casper in disguise as the Hyundai Ai3?
02 January 2025 07:05
Realistically, it’s probably 70% Casper, 30% new stuff. That 30% could make a big difference when it comes to how it's received here.

I think we’re missing the point. But whether it's a Casper clone or not, the question is how does it stack up against the Punch and C3. That's the real test.

I’m honestly just excited we’re getting a new micro-SUV option. It isn't just that the segment needs more competition to keep prices in check.

The Casper is built for Korean roads, you guys are forgetting. It'll drive very differently because the Ai3 will need a completely different suspension setup for India.
Is the Ai3's sunroof going to be a game changer or just a gimmick?
02 January 2025 07:05
Sunroof on a micro-SUV? That’s just asking for trouble. In the monsoons it'll leak, guaranteed.
Is the Ai3's sunroof going to be a game changer or just a gimmick?
02 January 2025 07:05
I think it's brilliant. This could be the cheapest car to offer a sunroof, and sunroofs are hugely popular in India. It'll definitely turn heads.
Is the Ai3's sunroof going to be a game changer or just a gimmick?
02 January 2025 07:05
It's a gimmick, and a smart one. At this price point, people will flock to showrooms just to see the “SUV with a sunroof.”
Is the Ai3's sunroof going to be a game changer or just a gimmick?
02 January 2025 07:05
I’m all for it, so long as it doesn’t sacrifice on other important features. More choice is always good for the consumer.
Is the Ai3's sunroof going to be a game changer or just a gimmick?

Long term reliability is a concern of mine. I’m not sure if sunroof belongs in a budget car; they’re complex mechanisms.
Is the Ai3's sunroof going to be a game changer or just a gimmick?
02 January 2025 07:05
It’s not about being practical, it’s about making the feel good factor. What sells cars is driving with the sunroof open on a nice evening.
Is the Ai3's sunroof going to be a game changer or just a gimmick?
02 January 2025 07:05
I'd rather have a sunroof, but I'd rather have more powerful engine or better ground clearance. Here Hyundai's priorities seem off.

We shall see the final price and then judge. It could be a masterstroke if they can fit a sunroof without too much price hike.
