I would not recommend any GSA model to true beginners. Regardless of the tech, start smaller and work your way up.

It’s not dramatic power increase. If you can handle a R1250GSA, you’re fine on the 1300.

It's more intermediate friendly now, I'd say. A big adventure bike, great for second bike owners looking to step up.

It is too road focused these days. Each new generation, however, loses a bit of that raw, go any where spirit.

I’ve run mine on some gnarly trails and it’s handled better than the 1250 ever did. It's a true all-rounder.

It all depends on your riding style. If you're hardcore off roader, the R1300GSA's improvements might be worth it. If you are mostly using the bike on the road stick with the 1250.

I upgraded and I wouldn't go back. Both the new engine character and the better electronics make it feel like a new bike.

I rode both back to back and the difference is subtle honestly. This little bit of extra processing power won’t make you a better developer unless you’re pushing the limits of what your unit can do.

I love the new design! It's more modern, more aggressive, and it fits the bike.
