Is the Avenger 220 a good bike for new riders to begin with?

I began with an Avenger 220 and loved it. It's forgiving enough for beginners, but has enough power that it will grow with you as you get better. So just be careful of its weight when you're just starting out.

I think personally it’s a bit too heavy for a first bike. Low speed manoeuvres and parking may prove difficult for new riders. Building confidence may be better served by something lighter.

It’s a good option, but not the best. Relaxed ergonomics are great for city riding, but could create bad habits later on for more spirited riding.

It's a pretty good first bike. Not too expensive, easy to ride and comfortable. All I ask is that you are comfortable with its size before you commit.
How is the Avenger 220 in long distance touring?

I’ve done a few 500+ km trips on my Avenger 220 and it does it like a champ. It's not a full blown tourer, but for budget touring, it's surprisingly capable. Long rides really benefit from the comfortable riding position.

They're fine for weekend trips, but if you're serious touring you'll want something more substantial. It has a small fuel tank and needs to be stopped frequently, and it doesn’t like to be fully loaded with luggage.

With a few changes it can make a nice touring bike. Take away the windscreen, add a bigger windscreen, some saddle bags, and maybe a more comfortable seat and you're good to go. It’s about figuring it all out so it works for you.
How is the Avenger 220 in long distance touring?

I wouldn't use it for long distance touring. It doesn’t have the power and features of dedicated touring bikes. If you had something that was made to do that you would be better off.

It's a mixed bag. It’s comfortable and reliable on one hand. On the other hand, it’s not really designed for long distance hauling. It will work, but it won't be the best experience.

In fact, it's pretty good for solo touring on a budget. However, with a pillion and luggage on board, you'll soon realise its limitations.

I love it for touring! It’s comfortable enough for all day riding and it’s simple, which means less can go wrong. All you need to do is plan your trips around its range.

Bajaj will definitely need to update it. Newer models compare to the bike outdated. It could be a refresh to bring in a lot of new buyers who want modern features.

I believe there is a middle ground. Let’s keep the classic look and feel, but go with a modern engine, add ABS and a digital display.

We need a major overhaul. The Avenger is on the right track, but it can’t stand still. It would go a long way with a new engine, better brakes and some tech upgrades.
Should Bajaj keep the Avenger 220 as is or give it a major update?

I would be for leaving it as is. One of the few bikes that still are easy to work on & maintain. Not everyone needs or wants a computer on wheels.
Should Bajaj keep the Avenger 220 as is or give it a major update?

But Bajaj should definitely update it, just carefully. It’s a fine balance of keeping the heart of the Avenger, but pulling it into 2025 with some smart upgrades.

But they have to update it, not too much. Maybe a little more power, better suspension, and ABS. Keep the classic cruiser look and feel but.
Is the Bajaj Avenger 220 still relevant in 2025?
14 January 2025 06:52
Absolutely! The Avenger 220 is that friend who’s always there for you. Of course, it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of new bikes, but that’s the beauty of it. Easy, comfortable, and does the job without making a fuss.
