Driving the 2025 Volvo XC90 B5 Ultra in India, I find it remains a compelling luxury SUV with its understated Scandinavian design and a cabin that feels both plush and airy. The B5 powertrain, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with 48V mild-hybrid assistance, delivers 250hp and 360Nm, which is sufficient for city commutes and highway cruising, though it doesn’t thrill with outright performance. The eight-speed automatic is smooth, and the 0-100kph time of around 7.9 seconds is respectable for this segment. Ride comfort is a mixed bag; the air suspension is firm on Indian roads, transmitting more road noise and harshness than expected, especially at the rear. The infotainment now runs on a new Android-based system with large tiles for quick access, but physical shortcuts for climate control are missing, and Apple CarPlay requires a wired connection. The third row is usable but access is tight. Safety remains a highlight, with a comprehensive ADAS suite, 360-degree camera, and Volvo’s renowned build quality. For families prioritising safety and comfort over sporty dynamics, the XC90 B5 Ultra continues to be a strong contender in India’s luxury SUV space.
