Toyota unveiled the new Land Cruiser in June 2021, marking a significant redesign after 13 years of the 200 Series. The new model adopts the GA-F platform, reducing vehicle weight by 200 kg and lowering the center of gravity. It also features improved suspension, including the Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS), and enhanced off-road capabilities. I think this redesign will make the Land Cruiser even more appealing to off-road enthusiasts.

The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser continued to impress with its off-road capabilities, featuring a 381-horsepower 5.7-liter DOHC V8 engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a full-time 4WD system. The vehicle also included advanced technologies like Downhill Assist Control, Hill Start Assist, CRAWL Control, and Off-Road Turn Assist. I think the Land Cruisers suspension and off-road tech make it a standout in its class.

Toyota decided to celebrate the Land Cruisers multi-decade run with the 2020 Heritage Edition, which included unique exterior and interior features. This model dropped the third-row seating for more cargo space and came with a higher price tag of $89,110. The Heritage Edition also featured a lighter curb weight and specific off-road hardware.

The 2020 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition was noted for its exceptional ride quality, thanks to its hydraulically controlled disconnecting anti-roll bars and the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS). This setup helped in delivering a smooth ride both on and off the road. I believe this suspension system is one of the best in the market for off-road vehicles.

The 2020 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition was tested and found to have a slightly slower acceleration compared to previous models, partly due to the added drag from the Yakima roof rack. However, its off-road performance and luxurious interior remained uncompromised. I believe the trade-off in speed is worth it for the added functionality and style.

For the 2021 model year, the Land Cruiser Heritage Edition introduced an optional three-row seating configuration, in addition to the existing two-row setup. This change allows more passengers to enjoy the ride while maintaining the luxurious and functional interior appointments. The starting MSRP for the Heritage Edition with three-row seating was announced closer to its production start in September 2020. I believe this flexibility will attract more families to the Land Cruiser.

The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition celebrated the vehicles long history with exclusive features such as Midnight Black Metallic or Blizzard Pearl white colors, bronze 18-inch BBS aluminum wheels, and a Yakima MegaWarrior roof rack. Inside, it came with black leather, heated and ventilated front seats, and a range of driver aids including Toyota’s Safety Sense system. I think the Heritage Edition is a great tribute to the Land Cruisers legacy.

Despite the impending release of the next-generation 300 Series, the 2020 Land Cruiser remained a benchmark for combining off-road capability with luxury. It retained its 5.7-liter V8 engine and 8-speed automatic transmission, along with a range of advanced safety features and off-road technologies. I think the 200 Series will still be a favorite among many enthusiasts even after the new model is released.

In mid-2020, there were concerns about potential quality issues in vehicles built during that period due to supply chain and parts issues affecting the automotive industry. However, the low volume production of the Land Cruiser 200 Series might have minimized these impacts. Toyota is known for its tight quality control, which could have helped mitigate any austerity issues.
