Toyota has announced that it will be discontinuing the Etios Liva soon, including the TRD Sportivo diesel variant. This decision comes as the company refocuses its product lineup. The Etios Liva, known for its reliability and low ownership costs, has been a popular choice in India. I think this move might disappoint loyal customers, but it could also pave the way for new, more advanced models.

In 2013, Toyota Kirloskar Motor introduced the Etios Liva TRD Sportivo with a new 1.5L engine, targeting the youth market with its sporty and trendy design. This variant included features like a TRD Aero Kit, smoked alloy wheels, and a new seat fabric with the TRD Sportivo logo. The diesel variant was priced around Rs. 6.14 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). I believe this edition was a great move to attract younger buyers with its aggressive styling.

The Etios Liva TRD Sportivo diesel variant came with enhanced safety features, including ABS with EBD, dual-front airbags, and ISOFIX child seat mounts, making it one of the safest cars in its segment. The diesel engine produced 68PS and 170Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. I believe these safety features were a significant selling point for this model.

Toyota expanded its dealer network significantly around the time of the Etios Liva TRD Sportivo launch, aiming to improve its reach in semi-urban and rural areas. This expansion included setting up new outlets and enhancing the Toyota U Trust operations for better customer service. I think this strategic move helped in increasing the vehicles accessibility across India.

In July 2012, Toyota launched the Etios Liva TRD Sportivo Limited Edition, marking the first anniversary of the Etios Liva. This limited edition, designed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD), Japan, was available in both petrol and diesel variants and featured accessories like front bumper spoilers, side skirts, and smoked alloy wheels. The diesel variant was priced at Rs. 6,32,281 (ex-showroom Delhi). I think this limited edition added a nice touch of sportiness to the standard model.
