Toyota has announced that it will be discontinuing the Etios Cross soon, citing the need to comply with new BS6 emission norms and a shift in consumer preferences towards sub-4m SUVs. This move marks the end of an era for the Etios Cross, which was known for its spacious cabin and robust build. I believe this decision is a strategic move to focus on more popular segments, but its sad to see a reliable model go.

Despite its mechanical similarities to the Etios sedan and Liva, the Etios Cross stood out with its increased ground clearance and crossover design. However, it lacked significant aesthetic upgrades since its launch, which may have contributed to its declining popularity. I believe a design refresh could have kept it more competitive in the market.

The Toyota Etios Cross X Diesel VD, before its discontinuation, was priced at Rs. 8.09 lakh and offered a mileage of 23.59 kmpl. It featured a 1.4-litre diesel engine producing 68PS and 170Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. I think this variant was a great option for those seeking a fuel-efficient and powerful crossover.

The Etios Cross was notable for its safety features, including standard dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors across all its variants. This emphasis on safety made it a reliable choice in its segment. I think this focus on safety was one of the standout aspects of the Etios Cross.

In 2017, Toyota Kirloskar Motor launched the Etios Cross X-Edition, which included special add-ons such as black accents on the front grille and fog lamp bezels. This limited edition was aimed at enhancing the vehicles appeal during the festive season. I believe these cosmetic upgrades made the Etios Cross more attractive to potential buyers.
