Toyota has stopped the production of the Etios and Etios Liva in India, marking the end of a decade-long run. The decision was made as the company chose not to upgrade the Etios to meet the new BS6 emission standards. This move has shifted Toyotas focus towards other models like the Yaris and the Glanza, a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Baleno. I think this was a necessary step to comply with environmental regulations, but its sad to see such a reliable car go.

In September 2016, Toyota launched the Platinum Etios, a limited edition of the Etios sedan, which came with more premium features such as a new paint scheme, dual-tone upholstery, and additional infotainment features. The petrol variant was priced at Rs. 7.84 lakh, while the diesel variant was priced at Rs. 8.94 lakh. This update was a nice touch to keep the Etios fresh in the market.

The Toyota Etios hatchback achieved a 4-star frontal adult passenger safety rating in the Global NCAP crash test in February 2016. This was a significant milestone, especially since it was one of the first made-in-India cars to achieve such a rating. I believe this safety rating helped boost consumer confidence in the Etios.

In May 2014, Toyota introduced the Etios Cross, a crossover-inspired version of the Etios Liva. The Etios Cross featured body cladding, skid plates, roof rails, and a redesigned grille, giving it a rugged look. This variant was aimed at attracting buyers looking for a more adventurous design. I think the Etios Cross was a clever move to tap into the growing crossover market.

In March 2013, Toyota updated the Etios series with new features and design tweaks. The updates included changes to the interiors, front fascia, and taillamps. This refresh was part of Toyotas strategy to keep the Etios competitive in the market. I believe these updates helped maintain the cars appeal.

The Etios series reached a significant sales milestone in May 2012, with total sales of 100,000 units in India. This achievement highlighted the cars popularity and acceptance in the Indian market. I think this milestone was a testament to the Etioss reliability and value.

The Toyota Etios was launched in India in December 2010, with the saloon version hitting the market first, followed by the hatchback version in June 2011. The car was priced starting at Rs. 4.96 lakh and quickly gained popularity for its quality and reliability. I believe the Etios was a bold move by Toyota to capture the Indian subcompact car market.
