Tata Tigor Review
Expert Review by Maxabout
Overview
Compact sedans are popular in the same manner that compact SUVs are as they cater to a different demographic. The Indigo eCS was the vehicle that pioneered the sub-4-meter sector many years ago, but it was not a profitable venture for the corporation. However, a sedan version of the Tiago was planned later on and was dubbed the Tigor by Tata. This 'Styleback,' as Tata's marketing team dubbed it, was intended for Japanese and Korean competitors. The three-box form has remained popular since, and Tata Motors redesigned the Tigor in 2020, giving it a new identity, a somewhat refreshed inside, and a BS6-compliant petrol engine. The Indian automaker introduced Tata Tigor CNG to the market earlier this year. Tigor remains a native compact car that is not only safe but also far less expensive than its competitors. The CNG variant has reduced daily operating expenses, a longer range, and a cabin that is not 'bare-essential,' but fully loaded, spacious, and functional.
Tata Tigor Design and Style
Tata has abandoned the curving front design in favour of a more sharp and angular style. The new grille features ‘Y’ components and a chrome belt that runs through the bottom of the headlamps. The Daytime Running Lamps are now housed in fog light housing, and the fog lamps have a chrome surround to add to their elegance. There are also 'follow me home and approach' headlamps included with the headlights.
2023 Tata Tigor receives significant enhancements with this version, including a new Magnetic Red colour scheme that is only available on the XZ Plus variant. Tata has coupled the new colour scheme with a revised Infinity Black roof to create a dual-tone external appearance. Tigor XZ Plus's 15-inch alloy wheels are now Sonic Silver rather than the Tiago's dual-tone finish. The top-spec Tigor now comes standard with rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights. Other interior changes to the Tigor include car seat fabric with dual-toned black and beige cabin themes.
Tata Tigor Engine and Gearbox
2023 Tata Tigor specifications remain the same, with the same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine, but the diesel engine has been phased out. The petrol engines have a maximum power output of 86 HP at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque output of 113 Nm at 3300 rpm. The engine is connected to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed automatic transmission.
When switching to CNG mode, the power output drops as expected. Whereas the conventional 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder petrol engine produces 86 hp and 113 Nm, switching to CNG mode produces 73.4 hp and 95 Nm. For the time being, the CNG variant is only available with a five-speed manual transmission. The ECU is programmed in such a way that the Tigor/Tiago can be started directly in CNG mode.
Tata Tigor Suspension, Brakes and Tyres
2023 Tata Tigor has front disc brakes and an independent lower wishbone McPherson (Dual Path) Strut Type suspension, as well as rear drum brakes and a rear twist beam with coil spring, mounted on hydraulic shock absorbers suspension, with R14 wheels as standard and 15-inch wheels on higher-spec models. Mostly, the ride quality of the Tata Tigor remains agreeable through rough areas of the road. Tata Tigor is not intended to be driven aggressively; instead, it is best suited for regular commutes, where it excels.
Interior and Instrument Console of Tata Tigor
The interior of the new Tata Tigor is dual-tone light grey and slate, and the fabric seats have tri-arrow inserts that lighten up the compartment and open up a sense of airiness. Piano black accents surrounding the touchscreen infotainment system and a chrome finish around the AC vents add to the cabin's attractiveness. Power windows, a cooled glove box, and a rear armrest are also included for all occupants. The ORVMs are electrically folding, adjustable, and have a welcome function. The new digital instrument cluster for the driver is the main attraction of the cabin, aside from the new touchscreen infotainment system.
Harman-sourced 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the new Tata Tigor is supported by Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and Apple CarPlay. The touchscreen infotainment system is linked to a Harman sound system with four speakers and four tweeters. The instrument cluster provides the driver with vital information, such as average fuel efficiency, distance to empty, average fuel economy, door open reminder, and much more. If the driver forgets his key in the car, the instrument cluster will warn him and display a reminder. Capacitive buttons on the steering wheel operate the infotainment system as well.
Key Features of Tata Tigor
Apart from adding i-CNG to the lineup, Tata has also improved the Tigor variation offering. The Tigor now has a new top-tier XZ+ trim with a slew of extra features added to the already lengthy list. Rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights with projectors, a black roof with spoiler, and 15-inch alloy wheels are all standard (i-CNG gets 14-inch steel rims). Aside from that, the Tigor stands out with features such as a shark fin antenna, tri-arrow grille, LED daytime running lights, a seven-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, digital instrument cluster, cooled glove box, auto-fold ORVMs, engine start-stop button, and more.
2023 Tata Tigor has dual front airbags, an engine immobilizer, ABS with EBD, speed-sensitive auto door locks, corner stability control, a defogger, and seat belt reminders with pre-tensioners for the driver and co-driver. The reverse parking camera with reverse parking sensors assists the driver in easily parking the vehicle.
New Tata Tigor iCNG variant includes a fire extinguisher under the front passenger seat, as is required for all CNG vehicles. A microswitch also switches off the engine when the gasoline cap is opened, and the engine will not start as long as it is open. Tata additionally equipped the CNG cylinder with leak and thermal protection, as well as a pressure release nozzle.
Top Speed and Mileage of Tata Tigor
The company claimed mileage of the new Tata Tigor is 20.3 km/l for the petrol variants and 26.49 km/kg for the iCNG variants and the top speed is around 160 km/h (user claimed).
Tata Tigor Colour Options
Tata offers the new Tigor in 5 different colour options, namely Magnetic Red, Deep Red, Arizona Blue, Opal White and Daytona Grey.
Tata Tigor Competitors
Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tiago, Tata Altroz, Tata Nexon, Honda Amaze, BYD Auto E6 Electric, Hyundai Aura, Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS and Mahindra KUV100 NXT are the top competitors for Tata Tigor.
Conclusion
2023 Tata Tigor is a good choice if you want a compact car with a great safety package, an appealing design, and a long list of extras. Tigor boasts the best appearance and design in the class, both exterior and interior. It boasts ABS with EBD, dual airbags, child safety, and other features that provide exceptional safety and confidence when driving on the road. When it comes to comfort, the seats are comfortable and there is enough space in the cabin. Also, the suspension is strong enough to withstand the road conditions during the rainy season, when we have pothole-filled roads.
With the release of the facelift, the Tigor looks new and has new features that make it even more appealing. Tata has geared Tigor for customers who want a compact car that is easy to drive and manoeuvre for day-to-day city duties. Instead of offering the CNG option in a lower-spec version, Tata has opted for the higher two standards, which may turn some people off. However, we believe that the extra cost for the CNG version above the petrol variant is well worth it.
Questions and Answers
Can I customize the Tata Tigor EV car?
Yes, you can often personalize your Tata Tigor EV car to make it more unique or tailored to your preferences such as changing the color, adding special accessories, or upgrading the interior. Some car companies even offer specific customization options when you buy the car so you can choose features that match your style. It is a bit like choosing your favorite phone case to make it appealing but in this case, you are customizing your car to match your taste and needs.
Is the Tata Tigor EV suitable for beginners?
Yes, the Tata Tigor EV is a good choice for beginners. It is designed to be easy to drive much like learning to drive a regular car. The difference is that instead of gasoline it runs on electricity which is simpler in many ways. Electric cars tend to have smooth and quiet acceleration so you don't have to worry about shifting gears or dealing with a complex engine. They often have automatic transmissions which makes driving even easier. If you are new to driving or new to electric cars, the Tata Tigor EV is a user-friendly option to consider.
How far can I drive on a single charge with the Tata Tigor EV?
The Tata Tigor EV can go a certain distance on a single electric charge, kind of like how your phone's battery lasts for a while before needing a recharge. On this car, that distance is about 200 kilometers (around 124 miles). When completely charged, it may travel up to 200 kilometers before requiring recharging. Keep in mind that this distance can vary depending on uses such as driving style and road conditions, just as your phone battery can drain faster if you use it frequently. But overall, it's designed to take you a good distance on a single charge.
How do I charge the Tata Tigor EV car?
Charging the Tata Tigor EV car is quite straightforward. You consider it like charging your phone or laptop. There are two main approaches: First, you can plug it into a special charging station designed for electric cars. These charging stations are frequently seen in public spaces or at approved charging spots. Simply plug in your car and it will begin charging. Second, you can charge it at home using a regular electrical outlet. The Tata Tigor EV comes with a charging cable that you connect to the car on one end and plug into the wall on the other. It's the same as plugging in any other equipment. Charging normally takes a few hours, but if you want it instant, there are faster charging solutions available. So, it's a bit like giving your car a "refill" of electricity when needed.
What will be the down payment for the Tata Tigor EV?
If you are planning to buy a new car on finance, then generally, a 20 to 25 percent down payment is required on the ex-showroom price of a car. However, exact confirmation regarding EMI, down payment, interest, loan period, and its procedure will be discussed by the bank or dealership only, as it depends upon individual eligibility.
