Mercedes S-Guard (Petrol)
General information and overview
The Mercedes-Benz S 680 Guard is a specially designed variant of the S-Class, engineered to provide the highest level of protection for its occupants. It is powered by a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, producing 612 horsepower and 830 Nm of torque, paired with a 9G-Tronic transmission. This vehicle boasts VPAM VR 10 ballistic certification, making it resistant to ballistic threats and explosive charges. The S 680 Guard features specially constructed tires with an inner layer that allows the vehicle to continue driving even after a puncture, and it includes advanced safety features such as a fresh air tank and a fire extinguisher. Inside, the vehicle offers a luxurious cabin with hydraulic-assisted doors, ambient lighting, and a range of comfort and entertainment features. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmh, and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmh in just 5 seconds. Despite its weight, the S 680 Guard handles remarkably well, thanks to its adapted suspension and transmission. This vehicle is ideal for high-ranking officials, politicians, and anyone who requires the ultimate in safety and luxury.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Mercedes-Benz S 680 Guard is an unparalleled blend of luxury and security, making it the ultimate vehicle for those who require the highest level of protection. Powered by a twin-turbo V12 engine producing 612 horsepower and 830 Nm of torque, this vehicle delivers impressive performance despite its substantial weight. The VPAM VR 10 ballistic certification ensures it can withstand even the most severe threats, including explosive charges and sniper bullets. Inside, the S 680 Guard offers pure luxury, identical to the regular S-Class, with features like hydraulic-assisted doors, ambient lighting, and a sophisticated infotainment system. While the added weight affects handling slightly, Mercedes has adeptly tuned the suspension and transmission to maintain a driving experience remarkably close to the standard S-Class. For those who need both safety and opulence, the S 680 Guard is the definitive choice.
Recent news and announcements
The Mercedes S680 Guard 4Matic has been highlighted for its exceptional safety features, including the ability to resist gunfire from automatic rifles and pass stringent explosive tests, earning it a VPAM VR10 certification. This luxury vehicle also boasts a V12 engine with 612hp and 830Nm of torque, along with all-wheel drive for the first time in a Guard-spec S-Class. I think this level of protection and performance makes it a unique offering in the market.
Mercedes has emphasized the luxurious interior of the S680 Guard 4Matic, which can be customized through the Mercedes Manufaktur programme. This includes over 80 bespoke options, such as individualized handmade upholstery and integrated media systems with OLED technology. The vehicle also features advanced safety systems, including a special filtration and air pressure system to protect against airborne threats.
Mercedes has used biofidelic dummies in testing the S680 Guard 4Matic to ensure its safety features meet the highest standards. These dummies mimic human anatomy closely, allowing for more accurate testing of the vehicles protective capabilities. The vehicle also includes features like a compressed fresh air tank and a fire extinguisher.
Mercedes-Benz has kept the S680 Guard 4Matics production and sales figures under wraps, but it is known that the vehicle is sold worldwide, excluding countries under embargo. The company conducts strict background checks on potential buyers, who are typically high-profile individuals such as government officials and business leaders.
The S680 Guard 4Matic features a protective body shell engineered specifically for the passenger cabin, while the engine bay and boot are not fully armored to avoid excessive weight. The vehicle is equipped with multi-layer glass windows and hydraulic window lifters for added security. I believe this balance between protection and weight is a significant engineering feat.
Pricing details and changes
In India, the Mercedes-Benz S 680 Guard comes with a hefty price tag, reflecting its advanced security features and luxurious amenities. The ex-showroom price for this vehicle can range from approximately 10 crore to 12 crore, depending on the specific customizations and features chosen. Once you factor in taxes, registration, and other on-road costs, the total price can easily exceed 15 crore. This significant investment is justified by the vehicles unique blend of protection and luxury, making it a worthwhile expenditure for high-profile individuals who require such extensive security measures.
Fuel efficiency information
The mileage of the Mercedes-Benz S 680 Guard is not its strongest suit, given its powerful V12 engine and heavy armor plating. With a combined fuel consumption of 19.5 liters per 100 kilometers (WLTP), this vehicle is not designed for fuel efficiency. However, for those who prioritize safety and luxury over running costs, the S 680 Guards mileage is a minor consideration. In practical terms, you can expect around 5-7 kilometers per liter in real-world driving conditions, which is reasonable given the vehicles performance and weight.

Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on Mercedes S-Guard (Petrol)
Mercedes Benz has launched its most expensive offering for the Indian automobile market, named the S600 Guard. From the first look, it is exactly the same as a normal Mercedes Benz S600, then why would someone spend a huge sum of money on it? The Answer is simple as it has got so much under its classy design that the person traveling inside is in a bunker on wheels. The special Guard edition is multiple times the cost of a normal S600, but it justifies every rupee spend on it.
Exterior
The Guard edition is same as the normal edition from outside, making it a secret defence weapon for those who need protection from unwanted dangers on road. The front gets the LED DRL's with the same xenon lamp as on the standard version. The same iconic logo stands on the hood with the classic design following throughout the body. The front grill gets chrome finish and the stretched design makes it an ultra-comfortable vehicle for the passengers.
Interior
The interior also remains the same, with all the luxury features which can be availed in a car. Each seat gets its own ventilation and entertainment system, with the option of massaging yourself with the body massage option. Everything else remains the same as a normal S class vehicle, but the real changes in the Guard edition can also not be guessed from inside.
Safety
The word safety seems small but the number of features being covered in this car explains the term clearly. It gets a VR9 level of Ballistic protection against assault rifles and hand grenades. It comes with armoured under body coating for a safe ride with an option of its own emergency fresh air system against the chemical attacks. The mirrors of the car seems normal from the look has polycarbonate coating, which requires hydraulic lifts to open and close. The night vision system on the car makes it a safe ride at night time also.
Engine & Performance
The S600 guard uses a 6.0L V12, making out 523 BHP and 830 NM of torque. This makes the car really quick even after gaining a lot of weight and the S600 Guard can touch a top speed 250+ kmph. Even the tyres used on the car support run-flat condition. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission has been used for better transmission of power throughout the ride.
Ex-showroom Price
The price of the S600 Guard has been kept at INR 8.9 crore, making it strictly for those who have a lot and lot of money with them.
