In May 2018, Maruti Suzuki announced an update for the Vitara Brezza, adding more standard features, including ABS and dual airbags across all variants. The update also introduced new paint schemes and cosmetic tweaks like additional chrome trims and sporty multi-spoke black alloy wheels. Prices were hiked by Rs 12,500, Rs 8,500, and Rs 5,500 for the LDi, VDi, and ZDi variants respectively. I think these updates were necessary to keep the Brezza competitive in the market.

The Vitara Brezza was awarded the 2017 Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) in December 2016. This prestigious award was given at the Taj Lands End Hotel in Mumbai, recognizing the Brezzas significant impact and popularity in the Indian market. Since its launch in March 2016, the Brezza had sold nearly 83,000 units, making it one of Indias top-selling models. I believe this award was well-deserved given the Brezzas impressive sales and market reception.

In April 2016, the Maruti Vitara Brezza was launched in India, priced between Rs. 6.99 lakhs and Rs. 9.68 lakhs (ex-Delhi). The vehicle was designed and engineered entirely by Maruti Suzukis development team in India and was notable for being the first car to be certified for Indian offset and side impact crash tests. The Brezza was powered by a 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced diesel engine and featured a well-mannered suspension. I think the Brezzas launch marked a significant milestone for Maruti Suzuki in the subcompact crossover SUV segment.

The development of the Vitara Brezza began in 2012 and took around 3.5 years to complete. Maruti Suzuki invested Rs. 860 crore into this project, with 98% of the components being locally sourced. The vehicle was showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo and was praised for its build quality and safety features, including a driver airbag as standard and optional passenger airbag and ABS. I believe the local sourcing of components was a smart move to keep costs down and ensure quality.
