Maruti Suzuki announced that the Omni would be discontinued due to its inability to meet new crash test norms. The vehicles flat front design lacks the structural integrity to incorporate crumple zones, making it unsafe according to new safety standards. I think this was a necessary step, even though its sad to see such an iconic vehicle go.

The Maruti Omni had a simple and basic design, with a front mid-engine and rear-wheel drive layout. This design, although outdated, contributed to its affordability and ease of maintenance. However, it lacked modern comforts and safety features. I think the simplicity of the design was both a blessing and a curse.

In 2016, Maruti Suzuki was working on updating their models to comply with upcoming safety norms, but the Omni was not part of these plans due to its design limitations. Other models like the Eeco and Alto 800 were being modified to meet the new standards. I believe this decision was inevitable given the safety concerns.

The vehicles suspension system, which included McPherson struts at the front and leaf springs with shock absorbers at the rear, provided a basic but functional ride. However, it was not designed to handle rough roads comfortably. I believe the suspension could have been improved for better comfort.
