USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Mahindra XUV500 4x2 W6 (Diesel) is a mixed bag when it comes to overall performance and user experience. On the positive side, this SUV boasts a robust 2.2-liter mHawk140 diesel engine, producing 140 Bhp at 3750 rpm and 330 Nm of torque at 1600 rpm, making it capable of handling various road conditions. The vehicles design and road presence are also notable, especially in the Indian market where a commanding stance is often preferred. However, there are significant drawbacks, such as the reported poor build quality and inconsistent mileage. Users have complained about mileage figures that are often lower than the ARAI-certified 15.1 kmpl, with some owners struggling to achieve even 9 kmpl on highways. Additionally, servicing issues and higher-than-expected maintenance costs have been a concern for many owners. Therefore, while the XUV500 has its strengths, potential buyers should carefully weigh these against the potential drawbacks.
Price
The Mahindra XUV500 4x2 W6 (Diesel) was priced at around INR 14.87 lakh ex-showroom before it was discontinued. When considering the on-road price, you would need to factor in additional costs such as registration, insurance, and other local taxes, which could push the total cost to around INR 17-18 lakh, depending on the state and local regulations. Given its features and performance, the price was competitive in the SUV segment, but the discontinuation means buyers would now need to look at either used models or newer alternatives.
Mileage
Thursday, 21 November 2024 06:25 PM Mileage is a critical factor for many Indian buyers, and the XUV500 4x2 W6 (Diesel) has mixed reviews in this regard. The ARAI-certified mileage is 15.1 kmpl, but real-world experiences vary widely. City mileage is approximately 11 kmpl, while highway mileage can range from 13 kmpl to as low as 9 kmpl, depending on driving conditions and style. This inconsistency can impact running costs, making it essential for potential buyers to consider these variables when evaluating the vehicles overall efficiency.

XUV500 is for Poor Who Wanna Feel Rich

XUV500 is not a good choice....build quality is poor... ..I drive my XUV500 with just below 90kmph...but not getting a mileage above 9.2kmpl on highway...till today I have done 11500km...mahindra service adviser say it gives mileage after 10000km....other adviser says after 20000km...another say 30000km......I have driven many vehicles but none of them takes so many kilometers to gives mileage....never gets satisfactory service from indraprastha automobiles of Mahindra....body comforts is very poor...body rolls in every direction in just little off road...please friends do not go with mahindra...make a budget go for Innova....or Duster...but not XUV

Best Features: Masculine heavy looks

Pros: Design ...body Masculine looks....

Cons: Build quality poor...hardly get mileage of 9 kmpl on highway after driving with descent speed of 80kmph to 95kph....

I am just asking a question, when and why you buy a car? very simple the answer After earned enough money then here peoples are buying a car, To travel with more and more safety then buy a car . Think many times before buy any car. safety and comfort very important, if any thing will happen you lose your lives, family and your saving. i can say you loose everything what ever you have . so these type of cars used only for a demo car , there is no specific design concepts just doing the assembly , buying all parts from another vendors and made it. Here the peoples are thinking car as a metal container box attached with four wheels. NEVER buy these kind of cars. you know these are most people killing vehicle ( disease) in INDIA.SO buy good cars otherwise use public transport for save your life.

I bought XUV 500 W8 on Jan 15. and this is the list of issues I have faced in last 15 days: The car has been manufactured using worst quality material. So its not a low cost car..its a cheap car with inferior quality material and you end up spending the money that has not been spent on it. Think before buying it as any 16L vs XUV for 13L...but cost of fixing things up makes up for that 3L difference. Mahindra service centers and engineers have no answers to my questions: 1. Break drums are rusted. You can see it visibly from outside. Mahindra blames the vendors. For evidence, check any other car/ SUV on road and you would know what I mean. 2. Wipers are bad quality and if it rains and you use them, they cause scratches on the windscreen. It may not happen in the first 2 minutes of usage. It can be so bad that you may want to change your windscreen. 3. Windscreen is single layered glass. Small pebble-touch can cause it to crack/ break. I have already replaced mine. I really thank Mahindra service center to do under warranty; however, it has scared me as it can happen again 4. The beautiful headlights and are made of bad glass. I have driven my car 1500 km and there are spherical shadows in the headlights from where the light passes through. 5. Aux unit does not work. Engineers have agreed that its a cause of worry in all the cars. You can test it using your iPod. You would not be able to hear the sound in all the speakers/ there would be continuous noise in audio quality. 6. The awesome red colored central screen switches off and on, on its own. You wanna try it...open the box on top in the center of the car, right above the console. Bang it a little harder...ur touchscreen is likely to reboot! :)Please don't be happy if it doesn't as it may happen at any time. Surprise is the fun part! 7. Hard suspension! you drive any car/ sedan/ SUV and you drive your XUV over the same speed breakers. You can feel the difference. XUV would throw you in all directions and you would feel all the bumps. 8. Here is the shocker! Breaks suck! hand break is so bad that the car can slip any side depending on the side of the slope you are with your hand break pulled up. Try pulling the car up on a slope if you don't believe this.(Please do so under supervision of a Mahindra Engg as it may cause an accident. I drove the car in Simla and experienced this)

First i cud not understand what difference it will make by calling it five hundred or 5 0 0? The over bookings is an old game and a hype. As it is initially launched.. there will be niggling problems till it becomes perfect and that will be a long time to go... we have got good examples of launch of tata indica and now nano...

Very smart looking vehicle. Beats many international brands hollow in terms of external and internal features. a 2200 CC engine with 140bhp is smart package. Would like to test drive one to see how it feels. A price point of 11.5 lacs upwards is very attractive.

Mahindra Xuv is a total different segment SUV.Features and power is amazing, but the interiors is not up to European market.Plastic used for interiors is not great. Hope this will be taken care in next editions.

Mahindra got it right once again ... like before they have successfully managed to maintain the hype till the launch ... The initial response indicates that it is a winner. What Aria could not do … this new beast from Mahindra have done … proved that there is a mass market for luxury. Proud to be Indian feeling again after Nano launch...

Great looks in front and side. The stepny on the fifth door(rear door) could have given pretty look of SUV at rear. Mahindra's are creating extraordinary things but none of their famous SUV's (Scorpio, Xylo and the new XUV 500) has stepny at rear door it seems they dont want to take risks about maintainability of rear door.

Shrey Soni

Nice car but 120 bhp is quite less power for a 14 lack SUV. And XUV 500 is odd to spell.

If the Mahindra XUV500 is not a ssangyong and is still a monocoque, that is interesting. If they have managed to keep the weight down to 1600 Kgs or below while still maintaining reasonable structural rigidity, the 138 horses would be meaningful. Not just meaningful but actually fantastic. Is the 2WD option FWD or RWD? If it was RWD it would be able to adopt this simple differential lock proposed at Mahindra’s sparktherise website (
