Hyundai Motor India announced the discontinuation of the Hyundai Eon by the end of September 2019, citing non-compliance with new safety regulations and Bharat Stage VI emissions standards. The last Hyundai Eon rolled off the production line on May 3, 2019. This move marked the end of an era for Hyundais entry-level car in India. I think this was a necessary step to ensure compliance with stricter safety and emission norms.

In August 2019, it was confirmed that the Hyundai Santro would replace the Eon as Hyundais smallest offering in India. The Santro was already launched before the festive season of 2018, preparing the ground for the Eons exit. This transition was part of Hyundais strategy to align its product lineup with new regulatory requirements. I believe the Santro is a solid replacement, offering better features and safety.

The Hyundai Eon was known for its tall-boy design, which provided good headroom for both front and rear passengers. However, the rear space was somewhat tight, and the boot space was not very large. Despite these limitations, the Eon remained a popular choice for its comfort and fuel efficiency. I think the design was a good balance between space and style.

The Hyundai Eon came with several first-in-segment features, including a tilt steering, driver-side airbag, and Bluetooth connectivity. These features made it a compelling option in the entry-level segment, offering more value for money compared to its competitors. I believe these features were a key factor in the Eons success.

Hyundai introduced the Eon Sports Edition in 2017, which added more equipment and styling enhancements to the Era+ and Magna+ variants. This limited edition model featured side body moldings, roof rails, and a 160 mm touchscreen infotainment system. It was available only in Polar White and aimed to boost sales with its sporty appeal. I think this edition was a great way to keep the Eon fresh in the market.

Hyundai Asia Resources Incorporated (HARI) opened its Hyundai Assembly Center (HAC) in Santa Rosa, Philippines, in April 2017 to meet the increasing demand for the Eon. This plant also produced other Hyundai models, including the H350. The local production helped in reducing costs and improving delivery times. I believe this was a wise decision to enhance local production capabilities.

The Hyundai Eon received a facelift for the 2014 model year, following its successful launch in 2011. The facelift included minor cosmetic changes and some feature updates to keep the car competitive in the market. This refresh helped in maintaining the Eons appeal among budget-conscious buyers. I think the facelift was timely and effective in boosting sales.

Hyundai released a variant of the Eon with the 1.0-litre Kappa II three-cylinder engine in May 2014. This engine produced 69 PS at 6,200 rpm and 94 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm, offering better performance compared to the 0.8-litre engine. This move was to compete more effectively with the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. I believe this engine upgrade was a significant improvement for the Eon.

In January 2012, Hyundai India launched LPG models of the Eon, which included a 34 L toroidal tank and added approximately Rs. 27,000 to the base price. This move was aimed at providing a more fuel-efficient option for customers. The LPG models maintained the same engine performance as the petrol versions. I believe this was a smart move to cater to the growing demand for alternative fuel options.

The Hyundai Eon was launched on October 13, 2011, in India, marking Hyundais entry into the highly competitive entry-level car segment. The car was praised for its stylish design, efficient engines, and feature-loaded cabin. It quickly gained popularity among first-time car buyers. I think the Eons launch was a strategic move by Hyundai to capture a larger market share.
