Chevrolet Cruze LTZ (Diesel) Updates

The Chevrolet Cruze, including the LTZ diesel variant, has been discontinued in the North American market since 2019. However, it is still available in a few international markets such as Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay. This move has left a gap in Chevrolets compact car lineup in many regions. I think this discontinuation reflects the shifting consumer preferences towards SUVs and crossovers.

General Motors emphasized the importance of the diesel engine in the Cruze LTZ, highlighting its ability to deliver significant torque and better fuel economy compared to the gasoline engine. This was part of GMs broader strategy to offer more efficient engine options. I think this focus on diesel was a good move given the market conditions at the time.

The 2018 Chevrolet Cruze LTZ diesel saw minor updates, including exterior styling changes and the continuation of the 1.6L turbo-diesel engine. The vehicle maintained its reputation for being a reliable and efficient choice in the compact car segment. I believe these updates kept the Cruze relevant in a competitive market.

The Chevrolet Cruze LTZ diesel was available with both a six-speed manual and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The manual version earned a 52-mpg highway rating from the EPA, while the automatic version achieved 47 mpg on the highway. This made it one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its class. I think the transmission options added versatility to the vehicle.

The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze LTZ diesel featured advanced technology, including a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a rear-view camera as standard. These features enhanced the driving experience and safety of the vehicle. I think these updates made the Cruze a strong competitor in its segment.

In its last iteration, the Chevrolet Cruze LTZ diesel was praised for its fuel efficiency, achieving an EPA combined rating of 37 mpg. The diesel engine, a 1.6L turbo-diesel, produced 137 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque, making it a compelling option for those seeking better mileage. I believe this engine was one of the highlights of the Cruze lineup.

The Chevrolet Cruze LTZ diesel was priced around $24,670, which was approximately $2,100 more than the gasoline-powered Cruze. Despite the higher price, the diesel model offered substantial fuel savings, making it an attractive option for long-term ownership. I believe the price difference was justified by the fuel efficiency gains.

The development of the 1.6L turbo-diesel engine for the Cruze LTZ involved advanced features such as aluminum block and head, reinforced crankshaft support, and oil-sprayed pistons for cooling. These design elements contributed to the engines efficiency and quiet operation. I think these engineering efforts paid off in terms of performance and comfort.

Chevrolets decision to reintroduce the diesel engine in the Cruze LTZ was partly in response to the VW diesel-emissions scandal, aiming to capitalize on the pent-up demand for reliable diesel vehicles. This move was seen as a strategic attempt to regain consumer trust in diesel technology. I believe this was a timely and smart decision by Chevrolet.

Chevrolet introduced the 1.6L turbo-diesel engine in the Cruze LTZ as part of its strategy to offer an alternative to gasoline engines and to meet future fuel-economy and greenhouse-gas obligations. This engine was known for its quiet operation and was marketed as a whisper diesel. I believe this was a smart move to cater to diesel enthusiasts.
