Expert opinion and recommendation
I find the Audi R8 V10 Plus to be a masterpiece of engineering that blends breathtaking design with exhilarating performance, making it one of the most drivable supercars available in India. Its naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine roars with 602 bhp, propelling it from 0-100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds and up to a top speed of 330 kmph, all while delivering one of the most intoxicating exhaust notes in its class. The cylinder-on-demand technology enhances efficiency slightly without compromising the raw thrill, and its quattro all-wheel-drive system ensures phenomenal grip and handling on Indian roads, from twisty ghat sections to urban highways. I appreciate how the R8 stands out for its everyday usability—it's surprisingly comfortable for long drives with supportive seats and a compliant suspension that absorbs potholes better than most rivals. In India, where supercars often feel out of place, the R8's stunning looks turn heads without being garish, and its build quality exudes premium confidence. Maintenance might be steep at around 1.5 lakh annually for services, but the driving joy it provides justifies every rupee for enthusiasts seeking a pure analog supercar experience that prioritizes fun over outright lap times. If you're chasing unadulterated passion on wheels, I recommend the R8 wholeheartedly—it's worth every bit of the investment for those rare weekend blasts.
I find the Audi R8 V10 to be a visceral, precision-focused supercar that blends intoxicating naturally aspirated V10 sound, razor-sharp handling and a daily-drivable demeanor better than most rivals. I appreciate the mid-engine balance and quattro all‑wheel drive that make the car both confidence‑inspiring at the limit and surprisingly usable in city conditions, while the 602 hp V10 delivers explosive acceleration and a soundtrack that justifies the premium. The cabin combines motorsport intent with luxury — compact, driver‑centric, high‑quality materials and Audi’s Virtual Cockpit suit the character, though rear visibility and everyday practicality are sacrificed by design. Running and ownership costs are high given the bespoke 5.2‑litre engine, specialised maintenance and limited dealer support for low‑volume supercars in India. If I want a pure, emotional driving experience and can accept the cost and practicality compromises, the R8 rewards with engagement and status few cars match; if daily practicality or low running costs are priorities, I would look elsewhere.
Recent news and announcements
The Audi R8 was known for its unique blend of supercar performance and daily drivability. Despite its performance credentials, the R8 never matched the sales of its Italian rivals, selling only around 30,000 units in 16 years. I believe this makes each R8 even more special for its owners.
Audi has hinted that any future successor to the R8 will likely be an electric vehicle, aligning with the companys commitment to electrify its entire product portfolio by 2026. The PB18 E-Tron concept from 2018 is seen as a potential precursor to what an electric R8 could look like.
The final Audi R8 has been produced and will be kept at Audis official museum in Ingolstadt, Germany. This marks the end of 17 years of production for the iconic supercar. The last R8 is an R8 V10 Performance coupe finished in Vegas Yellow. I think this is a fitting tribute to a car that has left a significant mark on the automotive world.
Audi has confirmed that the R8 production has been extended until the end of March 2024 due to increased demand following the announcement of its discontinuation. This extension allowed Audi to meet the surge in orders, particularly in the U.S. where sales doubled in 2023. I believe this extension was a smart move to capitalize on the cars popularity before its eventual end.
The Audi R8 was originally scheduled to end production in 2023, but due to a flood of orders after the announcement, production was extended. This extension allowed Audi dealers to continue finding customers for the 10-cylinder performance flagship. I think this shows the enduring appeal of the R8.
Pricing details and changes
In India, the Audi R8 V10 Plus carries an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.72 crore, positioning it as a premium supercar investment that's accessible compared to some rivals yet demands serious commitment. On-road prices escalate to around Rs 3.0-3.2 crore in major cities like Delhi or Mumbai, factoring in 20-28% road tax, registration, insurance (roughly Rs 5-7 lakh annually for comprehensive coverage), and high-security registration plate costs, which can vary by state—expect higher in high-tax areas like Karnataka. I view this pricing as justified for what you get: unmatched V10 purity and quattro prowess in a market flooded with turbocharged alternatives. Ownership costs extend beyond purchase with fuel at Rs 90-100 per litre eating into budgets quickly, plus tire replacements every 15,000-20,000 km costing Rs 2-3 lakh a set due to massive 245/30 front and 305/30 rear rubber. Service intervals at 15,000 km or annually run Rs 1.5 lakh at authorized centres, though independents like Reystat or EAT Owners offer competitive rates for supercars. For buyers in India, this translates to a high-entry barrier that suits collectors or high-net-worth individuals who prioritize exclusivity over value—financing at 9-11% interest stretches EMIs to Rs 4-5 lakh monthly over 5 years, but resale holds strong at 80-90% after three years if maintained meticulously. I advise budgeting 20% extra annually for running costs to avoid surprises, making it a smart buy only if supercar thrills align with your lifestyle.
The last recorded ex‑showroom price for the Audi R8 V10 Plus in India sits around Rs. 2.72 crore (ex‑showroom), with earlier/other R8 variants listed between about Rs. 2.30 crore and Rs. 2.72 crore depending on specification and model year. On‑road prices in major Indian cities typically add registration, insurance, GST and optional extras, which push the on‑road figure well beyond the ex‑showroom — in practice buyers should budget several lakhs more (often Rs. 3.0–3.2 crore on‑road depending on state taxes and options) to complete the purchase. I recommend confirming current on‑road quotes directly with authorised Audi dealers because the R8 has been a low‑volume model with intermittent availability and dealer-to-dealer pricing variation, and import duties or registration rules in different states materially affect the final price. Given the steep acquisition cost, I weigh the car’s emotional and performance value against alternative supercars and limited‑edition models available in the same price band before deciding.

Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on Audi R8
Audi R8 is one of the rarest sports cars available in India. The car was globally launched five years back and since then it has been quite popular worldwide. Now, the German auto giant has re-launched the up-graded version of their most expensive car. Let’s check out this racing machine in detail.
Exterior
Give it a look and you just can’t take your eyes off this car. It looks extremely mesmerizing and with new changes, things have even become much better. The most noticeable changes are made at its front. The new stretched LED headlights now act as the eyes of this car while a restyled hexagonal front grille forms the face of Audi R8. The black colored air-inlets also complement the look of this car and it makes it look extremely aerodynamic when seen from the front. The low positioned bonnet with Audi logo adds premium touch to this car. The lower bumper extensions further enhances the appearance of this car. The car retains its wide front windshield, large chromed alloy wheels and side doors. The side air-inlets and noticeable lines add sporty character to this car. R8 also gets new LED tail lights which go well with its rear air-inlets and bumper with sharp lines. Audi has also incorporated the new car with twin circular exhaust pipes which differentiates it from the outgoing model.
Interior
Step inside the car and it surely feels like a premium sports car. It looks far more up-market than its own younger siblings. The all black color theme inside adds fresh feel to the cabin of this car. The chrome and aluminium finishing also complement the interior styling. With top quality of plastics and fabrics in R8, Audi has achieved new heights of sophistication. The leather stitched steering wheel and seats feels quite soft to touch. They provide you utmost comfort inside. It’s a two seater sports car with air-cooled seats. There is huge amount of legroom and shoulder room in this car.
Comfort and Convenience
There is a long list of comfort features in this car. The car has keyless entry, start/stop button, power windows and wing mirrors, foldable roof, adjustable seats and steering wheel and many more.
Dashboard and Storage
Audi R8 features an up-market black colored dashboard integrated with central and instrument console. The big circular dials in its instrument console offers you clear vision while its central console comes equipped with a big multimedia touch screen. The plastic buttons being placed on its central console are easy to use and feel quite soft to touch. Apart from a spacious air-cooled glove box in its dashboard, R8 features many cubbyholes inside it. The bonnet acts as the boot of this car and can easily take a full size bag.
Music System
The central console comes integrated with a fully touch screen music system and satellite navigation system. This audio system comes with power speakers as well. It allows you to connect i-phone, iPod and other musical gadgets via Aux input. Bluetooth connectivity is also a vital feature in this car. All Bluetooth and audio controls are mounted on its steering wheel.
Engine and Gearbox
The new R8 is powered by two powerful petrol engines. These engines have been carried over from the previous generation R8. The smaller V8 cylinder, 4163cc direct fuel injected engine churns out a maximum power of 425 bhp at 7900 rpm while the maximum torque output of this 32 valves engine is of 430 Nm which ranges from 4500-6000 rpm. The second petrol unit in R8 is Lamborghini sourced 5.2L V10 cylinders engine which generates a maximum power output of 517 bhp at 8000 rpm. The torque output of this engine arrives at 6500rpm. These both engines are placed in the middle and features Audi Quattro technology. Audi has now equipped this car with all new 7-speed dual clutch S-tronic automatic transmission.
Acceleration and Performance
The light weight of R8 helps this car to become a speed ripper. The car is certainly not appropriate for our crowded roads as it’s quite difficult to control the immense power of this car. The smaller unit reaches 0-100km/hr in less than 5.7 seconds and if pushed hard, it can cross the speed of 300km/hr. The 5.2L V10 engine has become even more powerful with the help of new dual clutch gearbox. The car reaches the speed of 100km/hr from standstill in less than 4.5 seconds. It can easily go pass the speed of 310km/hr.
Mileage and Safety Features
The smaller engine returns an overall fuel economy of around 7km/ltr while its 5.2L engine returns a mileage of around 6km/ltr. The car comes with many safety features like dual stage airbags at front, central locking, engine immobilizer and ESP.
Suspension and Brakes
R8 features multi-settings suspension system at its both ends which enhances your riding comfort in this car. All wheels of R8 come equipped with ventilated petal disc brakes with four piston callipers. ABS with EBD and Brake assist further helps you to stop this racing monster accurately.
Ride and Handling
R8 shares its platform with Gallardo and feels equally confident in this department. The long wheelbase of 2649mm, wide 259 section tyres and Quattro drive system makes this car incredibly stable at high speeds. The cornering abilities further improve with accurate handling and superior quality of suspension system. The electronic steering keeps you connected to roads and its positive feedback boosts your confidence at high speeds. The light handling of this car allows you to drive it easily in city traffic like any other luxury saloon which gives it a big advantage over other sports cars. The braking system ensures your safety while driving such car on our crowded Indian roads.
Shades, Variants and Warranty
Five variants of R8 are available in nine different shades. The car comes with a warranty of 2years/unlimited kilometres.
Verdict
The expensive price tag clearly defines the high class of this sports car. Usually, there is hardly any practical reason for anyone to buy any sports car but we certainly feel that it makes sense to buy R8. Despite sharing its frame and performance with Lamborghini Gallardo, it’s far cheaper than that car. It’s a perfect choice for those who look for a reputed sports car at an economical price; not economical for everyone though.
