Hero MotoCorp has decided to discontinue the Hero Achiever 150 due to poor sales and the upcoming mandatory ABS norms, which would have increased the bikes cost. The Achiever 150, despite its good performance and attractive styling, failed to make a significant impact in the competitive 150cc premium commuter segment. The bike will no longer be on sale from April 1, 2019.

The Hero Achiever 150 received a significant update in 2017, featuring a new design with a taller fuel tank, new body panels, and the inclusion of Heros i3S (Idle-stop-start system) technology. The bike also complied with BS-IV emission norms and included features like Automatic Headlamp On (AHO) and a side-stand indicator. Despite these updates, the bike struggled to gain traction in the market. I think the updates were a step in the right direction, but perhaps not enough to compete with other popular models.

Hero MotoCorp launched the new Achiever 150 in 2016, priced at Rs 61,800 for the drum brake variant and Rs 62,800 for the disc brake variant. The bike featured a 149.1cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, producing 13.4 bhp of power and 12.5 Nm of torque. It also included new graphics, a large visor, and a flush-type fuel tank lid. The design changes aimed to enhance its appeal in the premium commuter segment. I believe the pricing was competitive, but the market response was lukewarm.

The Hero Achiever 150 was reintroduced in 2011 after the separation of Hero Honda, with some graphic variations and new features like black alloy wheels. However, it continued to struggle in the market, leading to its discontinuation in 2015. The bike retained the same 149.1cc engine and complied with BS-III emission norms. Despite its efforts, the Achiever failed to gain significant market share. I think the lack of substantial updates and strong competition were major factors.

The original Hero Honda Achiever was launched in 2006, based on the Hero Honda Ambition 135 platform. It featured a 149.1cc engine, similar to the Honda Unicorn, and was equipped with Advanced Microprocessor Ignition System (AMI) and a Keihin Conventional CV Carburetor. The bike was aimed at the commuter segment but saw low sales, leading to its production halt in 2010. I believe the Achiever had potential but was overshadowed by other models in the market.

The Hero Honda Achiever was known for its comfortable ride and smooth engine, making it a suitable option for office-goers. It had a 149cc engine producing 13.4 bhp and 12.8 Nm of torque, mated to a five-speed gearbox. The bike featured disc brakes at the front and five-spoke alloy wheels. Despite its comfortable ride, it faced criticism for poor gear performance and mileage. I think it was a reliable choice for those prioritizing comfort over performance.

The Achiever 150 was praised for its stability and braking performance, making it a good option for long rides. However, it was criticized for its back suspension, gear performance, and servicing issues. The bike had a fuel tank capacity of 12 liters and an ARAI mileage of 58 kmpl. I believe it was a solid choice for those looking for a stable commuter bike, despite some drawbacks.

The Hero Honda Achiever was part of the Hero Honda lineup, known for its commuter-focused design and features. It had a turning radius of 2.05 meters and a top speed of 110 kmph. The bike was equipped with a 12.5-liter fuel tank and had a reserve capacity of 2.3 liters. I think its practical design made it appealing to a specific segment of buyers.

The Achiever 150 competed with other popular 150cc bikes like the Honda Unicorn and the Pulsar 150. It was available in several color options, including black, candy blazing red, and force silver metallic. The bike was priced around Rs 62,325 (ex-showroom Mumbai). I believe the competition was fierce, which affected its sales.

I think the Achiever had a strong foundation but needed more to stand out in the market.
