Upgrading to a Corbin seat is the best mod I’ve done. It totally changed the comfort level on long rides. It's expensive, but definitely worth it for touring.

I put a small flyscreen on and it made a world of difference to wind protection without spoiling the look of the bike. No more buffeting at highway speeds was one of the benefits.

I swapped the stock exhaust for a Remus slip on, the stock exhaust is pretty quiet. Now the sound is much better and I swear I can feel a bit more pep in the engine.

In fact, just changing the handlebar grips made a big difference. I chose some chunkier, softer grips and it really helped cut down on vibration and make it more comfortable.

I think the best 'mod' I ever did was just getting the suspension preload correct for my weight. It's free and the handling and comfort difference is night and day.

I also added a set of engine crash guards. They look pretty good too and give me peace of mind. They are also good for mounting highway pegs.
Is the Super Meteor 650 comfy for long rides?

Last month I took mine on a 500 km ride and it was comfortable enough overall. The ride position is relaxed and the seat is decent. But, after about 300 km my back did start to ache a bit, as it does on most bikes.

After 2 hours I found it uncomfortable. You feel every bump in the suspension which is too stiff. I was stopping to stretch out frequently. Perhaps I have to dial the preload back or purchase a better aftermarket seat.

It's all about expectations. It's quite comfy for a cruiser, but not Gold Wing plush. I did a 1000 km weekend trip and was ok with regular breaks. The trick is to get off that seat now and then and stand up on the pegs.

It depends on your body type, I think. I'm 6'2" and find the ergonomics to be perfect for me. After an hour, my shorter friend tried it and felt cramped. If you are planning to tour, definitely test ride it for a good distance before buying.

The stock setup is fine, but investing in some upgrades really makes a world of difference. I fitted a gel seat pad, changed the suspension, and went with a larger windscreen. So now I can ride all day without problems.
How does the Super Meteor 650 handle in city traffic?
13 January 2025 09:38
And surprisingly, it's not bad in the city. The weight is well distributed so slow speed maneuvering is not as tricky as you might expect. The engine is torquey and also helps in stop and go traffic.
How does the Super Meteor 650 handle in city traffic?
13 January 2025 09:38
In heavy traffic I find it a bit of a handful. It's a huge turning circle and in tight spots it can be a pain to park. And when you are stuck at lights, the engine heat can get pretty intense.
How does the Super Meteor 650 handle in city traffic?

It's definitely not city use, but it's doable. You just need to think a little more about how you plan your moves. The wide bars make lane splitting tricky, but the seating position is upright and allows good visibility.
How does the Super Meteor 650 handle in city traffic?

I’ve gotten used to commuting daily on mine. It has enough low end torque to pull away from lights easily and is light enough for frequent use. It’s a head turner in traffic so just be prepared for some attention.
How does the Super Meteor 650 handle in city traffic?

It depends on your skill level. It's fine in the city if you're comfortable with bigger bikes. If you’re accustomed to smaller, more nimble motorcycles, however, it will feel a bit like steering a boat at first. You’ll adapt to it, however, if you give it time.

I cross shopped the Super Meteor with the Kawasaki Vulcan S and to be honest, the RE won me over with its looks and character. The SM650 just feels more special, but the Vulcan is more refined.

I've ridden both and the Honda Rebel 500 is a better all rounder. It's lighter, more nimble, and just fits and finishes better. The engine on the Super Meteor is torquier, which is nice on highways.

The Super Meteor is incredible value for the price. For less than most competitors, you're getting a big, imposing cruiser with a good engine. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, but it gets the basics right.
