Bajaj Chetak Updates

The Chetak electric scooter is now available at approximately 2,000 sales locations across India, significantly expanding its reach. This widespread availability, combined with the scooters features like hill hold, reverse mode, and Bluetooth app connectivity, makes it more accessible and appealing to a broader audience.

Bajaj Auto announced that its Chetak Electric Scooter surpassed 20,000 bookings in July 2024, attributed to the strategic expansion of Chetak Experience Centres and dealerships into Tier 2 towns. The Chetak 2901 model, priced at Rs. 95,998 (ex-showroom Bangalore), features a sturdy metal body, advanced technology, and a driving range of 123 km on a single charge. I think this expansion will significantly boost Bajajs market presence in the electric scooter segment.

The 2024 Bajaj Chetak Premium was launched with several updates, including a new 3.2kWh battery that increases the maximum claimed range to 127 km and a top speed of 73 kmph. The scooter also features LED illumination, a larger TFT screen, and smartphone connectivity through the TecPac upgrade. The price for the Chetak Premium is Rs. 1,35,463 (ex-showroom, Pune). I believe these updates make the Chetak a more compelling option in the electric scooter market.

Bajaj Auto increased the prices of the Chetak electric scooter due to the reduction in FAME-II subsidies, with the Chetak Premium seeing a price hike of Rs. 24,620. Despite this, the scooter remains popular for its blend of style, durability, and modern features.

The Bajaj Chetak Premium Edition, launched in March 2023, features cosmetic changes and new color options. It also includes updates like LED illumination and a larger TFT screen with smartphone connectivity through the TecPac upgrade. The price for this edition is Rs. 1,52,000. I believe these updates enhance the scooters value proposition.

Bajaj Auto reopened bookings for the Chetak electric scooter in several cities, including Pune, Bengaluru, Mysore, Aurangabad, and Mangalore, with plans to expand to 22 cities by 2022. The bookings were initially stopped due to COVID-19-related disruptions. This move indicates Bajajs commitment to making the Chetak widely available.

Bajaj Auto announced that the Chetak electric scooter will be available in Nagpur, marking another step in its expansion plans. The company aims to make the Chetak available in multiple cities across India to increase its market share in the electric scooter segment.

The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter received a price hike of up to Rs. 27,620 due to the reduction in FAME-II subsidies. Despite the price increase, the Chetak remains a popular choice, known for its retro design and modern features like Bluetooth connectivity and a coloured digital console. I think the scooters appeal will endure despite the price hike.

The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is designed with safety in mind, using high-quality lithium-ion cells and multiple internal safety measures. The battery is warranted for 3 years or 50,000 km, whichever comes earlier, and is expected to last for 70,000 km over 7 years with proper maintenance. This focus on safety and durability is a significant selling point.

Bajaj Auto is working on a more powerful version of the Chetak electric scooter, which could potentially be launched under the KTM/Husqvarna brand. This development indicates Bajajs plans to expand its electric vehicle offerings to cater to different user needs. I think this could be an exciting move for electric scooter enthusiasts.

Bajaj Auto unveiled the Chetak electric scooter in October 2019, marking its entry into the electric vehicle market. The scooter is manufactured at Bajajs Chakan plant and was initially available in Pune and Bengaluru. It features a seamless steel unibody and advanced safety measures like multiple internal safety devices within the lithium-ion battery.
