Tata Magic is a MPV that was launched by Tata as Micro van in June 2007. It is a passenger version of Ace mini-truck. It has an all-steel cabin and is very useful for loading purposes on any length of journeys. Its exterior gives a very robust look with hard steel top, attractive headlamps, sleek modern body lines, 12-inch radial tyres, wide passenger doors and two box tail lamps with in-built reflectors. While its sibling, the Magic Iris also has glass windows in front and window covers on rear windows, 12-inch radial tyres and stylish head and tail lights.
The interior of Tata Magic is also very charming with good headroom and legroom, wide passenger doors for easy entry and exit, comfortable steering wheel of variable ratio mechanism, wide cushioned seats, vast space for luggage, adjustable and fully comfortable bucket seat with headrest for driver, zippable side covers for ventilation and to protect from dust and rain, sun visor to protect eyes from direct glare of sun, stylish and spacious dashboard with tray for mobile, change, radio fitting and digital clock, attractive instrument panel and beige interiors.
It has front and rear tack of 1300mm and 1320mm respectively. Iris also has good steering wheel, foot operated acceleration, brake and clutch, stylish and informative instrument panel, fully comfortable passenger seats with seat belts, vast luggage area, adjustable driver and front passenger seats, stylish and highly spacious dashboard and sun visor. It has a front and rear track of 1250mm and 1310mm respectively. As far as safety of the passengers is concerned, Tata Magic gives a certain guarantee with solid steel top, powerful headlamps, strong rear brake lights with reverse lamp, steel body with monocoque and tubular structure, shock absorbers, static roll over and roof crush compliant, seat belts for everyone, twin wipers with windshield spray, side impact door intrusion beams, lockable glove compartment and big windshield with side and rear view mirrors.
Iris also has some safety features which are all steel body with double sheet steel doors, big windshield with side mirrors, motorized wipers with knob operated water spray, shock absorbers and static roll over compliant. Magic comes equipped with powerful clear lens headlamps and high-mounted tail lamps. Tata Magic has both diesel and CNG engines. The 702cc two cylinder four stroke naturally aspirated, indirect injection, water cooled diesel engine generates a maximum power of 16 bhp at 3200 rpm and a maximum torque of 38 Nm at 2000 rpm and is mated with a four speed manual gearbox. It has a top speed of 64 kmph and fuel tank capacity of 30 litres and follows BS III and BS IV emission norms.
The 702cc two cylinder, multi-point gas injection, water cooled dedicated CNG engine generates a maximum power of 21 bhp at 3400 rpm and a maximum torque of 49 Nm at 2200 rpm and has a top speed of 77 kmph with fuel tank capacity of 70 litres and follows BS III and BS IV emission norms. Tata Magic Iris has a 611cc single cylinder four stroke naturally aspirated, direct injection, water cooled diesel engine which generates a maximum power of 11 bhp at 3000 rpm and a maximum torque of 31 Nm at 1600-1800 rpm and has a top speed of 55kmph with a fuel tank capacity of 10litres and is mated with four speed manual gearbox. Magic Diesel and CNG both have vacuum assisted dual circuit hydraulically activated front disk and rear drum brakes. Magic Iris has hydraulically activated front and rear drum brakes and has car like parking brakes on rear wheels. Tata Magic has a ground clearance of 160mm and minimum turning radius of 4.3m while Iris has a minimum turning radius of 3.5m.
Tata Magic has a length, width, height and wheelbase of 3790mm, 1500mm, 1845mm and 2100mm respectively. Tata Magic Iris has a length, width, height and wheelbase of 2960mm, 1512mm, 1800mm and 1650mm respectively. Magic Diesel has a kerb weight of 1000kgs, Magic CNG has a kerb weight of 1100kgs and Magic Iris has a kerb weight of 685kgs. Thus, eight variants are Magic 5-seater, Magic 7-seater, Magic 8-seater, Magic CNG 5-seater, Magic CNG 7-seater, Magic CNG 8-seater, Magic Iris 4-seater and Magic Iris 5-seater. These are available in four vibrant shades which are Arctic White, Ruby Red, Jet Black and Skool Yellow. Tata Magic and Iris and CNG all comes with a warranty of 1 year / 36000 kms whatever comes earlier. Overall, this MPV is a real combination of performance, style, safety and price.
