About
The Maruti Suzuki A-Star LXi is a compact hatchback designed for urban driving. It features a 998 cc, 3-cylinder KB series engine producing 66.1 bhp and 90 Nm of torque, paired with a manual transmission. The car is known for its comfortable front legroom and decent interior space, although the rear legroom is limited. The A-Star LXi comes with essential features such as power windows, central locking, and an air conditioner, but lacks advanced safety features like ABS and airbags in this base variant. The ride quality is generally comfortable upfront but can be bouncy for rear seat occupants. Despite its limitations, the A-Star LXi is praised for its low maintenance, availability of spare parts, and overall build quality, making it a reliable choice for those seeking a budget-friendly, fuel-efficient vehicle.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Maruti Suzuki A-Star LXi is a compact and efficient hatchback that excels in certain areas but falls short in others. On the positive side, it is fun to drive, especially in urban settings, thanks to its compact dimensions and light steering. The car boasts a refined 3-cylinder KB series engine, which, although not the most powerful, provides decent performance and good fuel efficiency. However, the A-Star LXi lacks in terms of rear legroom and boot space, making it less suitable for families or those needing ample luggage space. The interior design is futuristic and appealing, with features like power windows and central locking, but it misses out on essential comforts like seat height adjustment and rear wiper. Overall, its a good choice for solo drivers or small families prioritizing fuel efficiency and ease of maneuverability in dense city conditions.
Price
The Maruti Suzuki A-Star LXi, when it was available, was priced competitively in the Indian market. The ex-showroom price for the A-Star LXi was around Rs. 3.72 lakhs, while the on-road price in cities like Chennai would be approximately Rs. 3.82 lakhs. This pricing made it an attractive option for those looking for a budget-friendly, fuel-efficient hatchback. However, its important to note that the A-Star has been discontinued, so these prices are historical. If youre considering purchasing a used A-Star LXi, prices would vary based on the cars condition, mileage, and location.

The Maruti A-Star LXi, a base model of the A-Star series, was discontinued by Maruti Suzuki India in 2014. This move was part of the companys strategy to focus on other successful models. The A-Star LXi was known for its 998 cc engine, producing 66.1 bhp and 90 Nm of torque, paired with a manual transmission. I think this discontinuation was a sign of the companys evolving market strategies and consumer preferences.

The A-Star LXi featured basic but essential amenities such as an air conditioner, central locking, and a height-adjustable driver seat. These features made it a comfortable and convenient option for daily driving. I think these features were well-thought-out for the price segment.
Monday, 01 July 2013 07:11 PM
Maruti Suzuki tested the A-Star platform for potential new hatchbacks, including the possibility of a diesel engine for the mini segment. However, no significant developments were announced or implemented. I believe this was an important area of research for the company.
Tuesday, 26 February 2013 07:20 PM
Maruti Suzuki had plans to launch a new version of the Alto Eco, known as the Maruti Suzuki A-Star in India, with an improved mileage of 33 kmpl. However, this plan did not materialize for the Indian market. The focus remained on the existing models and their updates. I believe this would have been a significant upgrade if it had happened.
Monday, 10 December 2012 12:09 AM
In 2013, Maruti Suzuki introduced a limited edition of the A-Star, called the A-Star Aktiv, in an attempt to boost sales. This limited edition added some cosmetic and feature upgrades to the standard LXi model, such as new alloy wheel designs and updated front seat headrests. I believe these limited editions were a good way to keep the model fresh in the market.
Monday, 03 September 2012 12:16 PM
The Maruti A-Star LXi had a mileage of 19 kmpl, according to ARAI certifications. This was one of the selling points of the vehicle, making it a fuel-efficient option for city driving. The cars compact size and efficient engine made it popular among urban buyers. I think the fuel efficiency was a key factor in its appeal.
Tuesday, 01 May 2012 05:23 AM
The Maruti A-Star LXi had a top speed of 140 km/h and could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 20 seconds, which was impressive for a small car. However, the automatic variant had noticeable lag in acceleration. I think the manual transmission was the better choice for performance.
Sunday, 01 April 2012 02:24 AM
The A-Star LXi was priced between Rs. 3.72 lakh to Rs. 4.02 lakh, making it an affordable option in the hatchback segment. The pricing strategy helped it compete with other models like the Hyundai i10. I believe the pricing was competitive and attractive to budget-conscious buyers.
Thursday, 15 March 2012 06:54 PM
The Maruti A-Star LXi had a front-wheel drive layout with independent front suspensions and a torsion beam rear suspension, which provided a smooth ride and good handling. The electrical power steering system added to its ease of maneuverability. I think the suspension setup was well-suited for Indian roads.
Sunday, 01 January 2012 03:30 PM
The A-Star LXi had a unique design with bug-eye headlights and a fresh, youthful look that appealed to many buyers. The interior featured a floating cockpit design and contoured aero-dashboard, which added to its modern appeal. I think the design was one of its strongest points.
