Hyundai i20 was first launched by Hyundai in 2008 to cope up with their failed hatchback, Getz and i20 proved itself in every possible way since the very beginning. Now, as other competitors are arriving in the market with their advanced hatchbacks, Hyundai made some changes in i20 to give it better chance to compete with these next generation cars and launched its new version in market, the new i20 i-Gen.
The all-new Hyundai i20's exterior gives an advanced and refreshing look with its cool front headlights, deep nose with the simplest front grille carrying the logo of Hyundai, all new bumper has large four layered air dam with fog lights, longer bonnet, ORVMs carrying newer in-built turn indicators, 14-inch eight spoke alloy wheels, huge wheel arches extending out of side fenders, new tail lights and stylish spoiler. The interior of this hatchback also gives a very elegant and soothing look with its duel tone beige and black colors, blue LED for lighting the interior, chrome finished inside door handles, leather covered three spoke dark grey steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth controls and gear knob with a chrome ring on its tip, advanced instrument panels with newer dials of driver seat belt reminder and gear shift with low fuel indicators and a Multi Information Display showing digital clock, calendar, outside temperature, engine running time and dual trip meter.
For the utmost comfort of the passengers and for a stress free driving experience, it includes fabricated seats, ample legroom and shoulder room in front as well as in rear, smart pedal system, one touch triple turn signal, powerful AC with Automatic Climate Control and cluster ionizer for fresh air inside, electrically adjustable power steering with tilt and telescopic options, keyless entry, all four auto down power windows with pinch guard feature for driver, front and rear fog lights with rear defogger, wiper and washer, engine Start/Stop button, electrically fold-able and adjustable outside door mirrors, sunroof and adjustable driver seat and headrests for rear seats.
Hyundai i20 is longest and widest in its segment in India, so it guarantees a comfortable and highly spacious experience and the enormous boot capacity never ceased to impress. The central console has a quality 2DIN music system with radio, CD and MP3 player, in-built AUX-in and USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, four powerful speakers and two front tweeters. It also has a 12V accessory socket in front. The new i20 i-Gen has three engine options.
The 1197cc 1.2 litre Kappa Petrol engine gives a maximum power of 84 bhp at 5200 rpm and a maximum torque of 116 Nm at 4000 rpm and has a five speed manual gearbox with the top speed of nearly 140 kmph. It reaches 0-100 kmph mark in 16 seconds and has a mileage of 12-13 kmpl in the cities and 15-16 kmpl on the highways. The 1396cc 1.4L Gamma Petrol engine has a maximum power of 100 bhp at 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 139 Nm at 4200 rpm and has a five speed automatic transmission with a mileage of 10-12 kmpl in the cities and 14-15 kmpl on the highways. The 1396cc 1.4L CRDi Diesel engine is the most popular one in India as it has a maximum power of 90 bhp at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 224 Nm at 1750 rpm and has a six speed manual gearbox with the top speed of almost 160 kmph. It gives an astonishing mileage of 16-17 kmpl in the cities and 17-19 kmpl on the highways.
Its 2525mm of wheelbase and good ground clearance gives a comfy and smooth ride on Indian roads and minimum turning radius of 5.20m helps in tight parking spaces in the crowded cities. The new i20 i-Gen has disk brakes on all the four wheels. Its suspension system includes McPherson struts with stabilizer bar at front and coupled torsion beam axle with coil springs at rear. As far as safety of the passengers is concerned, the new hatchback has ABS with EBD, Dual front, side and curtain Airbags, Clutch Lock System, Engine Immobilizer, Impact Sensing Door Lock, Rain Sensing Wipers, Speed Sensing Auto Door Lock, Auto Headlights and rear parking camera and sensors with display on ECM.
It is available in six vibrant shades which are Sparkle Blue, Coral White, Dark Grey Metallic, Black Diamond, Sleek Silver and Maharaja Red. It comes with a warranty of 3 years or 40,000kms, whatever comes earlier. It has a price range of INR 4.84-7.87 lakhs which may vary slightly in different states (approx., may vary). Overall, this hatchback provides a good combination of style, comfort, performance, safety and luxury but its petrol variants are not as good a performer.
