Bajaj RE60 Review

08 Jun, 2015 08:39 PM

Overview

Small cars feels more like a futuristic view of the automobile industry, with most of the manufacturers planning or testing some sort of a tiny hybrid vehicle which plays an environment friendly role in the upcoming societies. Nano, as we all know can be called as the leader of the revolution, making most of the people of India think once of buying it for their and the environment's benefit. Small cars are not just less polluting but they are also space savers and pocket friendly. As per the current scene in the market, the situation is not on their side and they are facing a lot of problems due to lack of technology and some serious safety issues. Bajaj RE60 is one of the nearly completed projects, just hanging around on the terms of lack of safety.

Design & Style

The car or more typically saying, the quadricycle comes with a tall boy design. The car looks more like an animated toy character when seen in pictures whereas the test mule spotted was looking perfect according to its class of work. Small wheels with nearly square arches are seen when viewed from the sides and the front has a small bonnet with the RE badging on it. No one knows what’s under that hood as the engine is placed at the rear end only. The bumper on the ride will be available in black and body colored option, out of which the black one makes the car look more like a real life element.

Engine & Performance

The most important and surprisingly the oddest sounding part of the RE60 is its engine itself. It comes with a 200cc water cooled,4-valve DTSi petrol engine, which would be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The expected power production is 20 BHP and the factor it is famous for, it will just emit 60 g/km of CO2. The engine sounds really underpowered for the car as 400 kg is not so easy to be pulled up to the written top speed of 70 kmph. The engine is expected to return a mileage of 30-35 kmpl.

Safety & Comfort

The braking will be controlled by drum brakes on all the wheels whereas the suspension has not yet been disclosed by the manufacturers. The braking power would not be excellent as cost cutting will affect its overall ride quality. The noise cancellation and other comfort terms would only be known after its launch and its safety was the only reason for its delay of launch from the described time. It had a poor roof structure, making it unsafe for everyday use and government has asked the manufacturer to resolve the flaw and again apply for the manufacturing license.

Variants & Expected Ex-showroom Price

It would be available in 2 variants and the one we are expecting the most is the 2+2 seating capacity RE60. It can both be used for personal as well as commercial purposes. The expected price of the newcomer is INR 1,30,000.
