Yamaha India Developing Maxi-Scooter to Rival Suzuki Burgman 125

As per the latest media report, Yamaha India is aiming to enter the maxi-scooter segment shortly. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer hopes to entice consumers looking for a more practical and attractive scooter with a unique riding experience and such scooters have a large potential in the Indian vehicle market. The upcoming maxi-scooter is likely to compete with Suzuki Burgman 125 and is expected to arrive on Indian roads in early or mid-2022.

The company has unveiled its XMax maxi-scooter for the Japanese market earlier this year. It has a stepped-up single-piece seat with a pillion grab rail and 12V DC charging outlets as well as a headlight-mounted front apron with a tall windshield, and a 3D XMAX logo. Along with the designer wheels and a semi-digital instrument cluster, the scooter has all-LED lamps.

This recently launched scooter is powered with a liquid-cooled, four-valve 292cc single-cylinder engine that produces smooth, tractable power. With a lightweight forged piston and crankshaft, the cylinder is made of Yamaha's DiASil aluminium for efficient heat dissipation. The newly released scooter in the Japanese market provides the ease of genuinely "twist and go" riding, with no gears and no clutch and this feature gives a laid-back riding style that's excellent for navigating city traffic.

The forthcoming Yamaha two-wheeler is going to be the company's most costly scooter in India. It's expected to be built on the same base as the Yamaha Ray ZR and Fascino. The Yamaha Fascino is powered by a 125cc fuel-injected engine that produces 8.2bhp and 9.7Nm. The Suzuki Burgman Street, on the other hand, is powered by a BS6-compliant 124cc single-cylinder engine. It produces 8.7bhp at 6750rpm and 10Nm of torque at 5500rpm, according to the manufacturer.
