Triumph Bikes, the renowned British bike manufacturer, has expanded its global footprint by exporting the Made-in-India Triumph Speed 400 and Triumph Scrambler 400X to multiple overseas markets. Malaysia is one such destination, where the prices for the 2024 models have recently been announced, mirroring the hardware specifications of the India-spec Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X.

2024 Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X Prices in Malaysia

In Malaysia, the 2024 Triumph Speed 400 is set to start at RM26,900 (approximately Rs 4.78 lakh), while the Triumph Scrambler 400X begins at RM29,900, roughly equivalent to Rs 5.31 lakh. A comparison with the Indian market reveals that the Speed 400 starts at Rs 2.33 lakh, and the Scrambler 400X at Rs 2.63 lakh. Notably, the Speed 400 was initially launched in India in July, followed by the introduction of the Scrambler 400X in October.

Distinctive Features and Styling

Although both the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X share the same platform, they boast distinctive styling and certain specification differences. For instance, the Speed 400 features a single-piece seat, whereas the Scrambler 400X adopts a split seat format and variations are also evident in color options, exhaust muffler design, and tire choices. The Scrambler 400X is equipped with off-road-focused features such as radiator and sump guards, hand guards, and knobby, dual-purpose tires and it also incorporates switchable ABS for improved control and handling in off-road environments.

Technical Variances

Technical differences include wheel sizes, with the Speed 400 sporting 17-inch wheels at both ends, while the Scrambler 400X opts for a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel configuration. Variances extend to the wheelbase, seat height, and weight. The Scrambler 400X, being off-road-oriented, is slightly heavier at around 9 kg more than the Speed 400 and both bikes share common features such as a round headlamp, USD front forks in a golden finish, a distinctive fuel tank design, and a tail section. Additionally, they feature a semi-digital instrument console.

Performance and Specifications

Both the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X are powered by a 398.15 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC engine that produces 40 PS of maximum power and 39.5 Nm of peak torque and this engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox, delivering a dynamic riding experience.

Market Response and Triumph's Strategy

Triumph's strategic move to introduce single-cylinder bikes has proven successful, garnering positive responses in both domestic and international markets. In the Indian market, the Triumph 400 secured the 5th position in the list of bestselling 300cc to 500cc motorcycles in September and Triumph's foray into this segment has positioned its bikes favorably against competitors such as Honda, Jawa, and Yezdi. With a growing popularity trajectory, Triumph's 400 series motorcycles are poised to bridge the gap with leading players like Royal Enfield even further. This underscores Triumph's commitment to innovation and responsiveness to evolving market preferences reinforcing its status as a key player in the global bike industry.
