The Fortuner GR Sport gets subtle design and styling updates; a sporty body with an updated front grille with a dark chrome finish; and chunkier front and rear bumpers. GR branding is printed on the front grille, bumpers, front and side body panels, and on the tailgate. The upcoming GR Sport is seen on the 18-inch premium dual-tone alloy wheels. ORVMs, air dams, door handles, window sills, and door sills are chrome finished as well. The rear design is more or less the same, except the GR Sport receives a new bumper spoiler, making it a bit more muscular.

The features are more or less borrowed from the Legender variant, such as the wireless charger, 360-degree parking camera, electrochromic rearview mirror, and revised instrument console. With the addition of a powered tailgate, a 9-inch infotainment system with voice commands, power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats, dual-zone climate control, etc. Safety has also been enhanced by adding 7-airbags, hill hold assist, traction control, lane departure warning, etc.

Powering the Fortuner GR Sport is the renowned 2.8-litre four-cylinder GD series turbocharged diesel engine. It produces 204 PS of maximum power at 3,000-3,400rpm and 500 Nm of peak torque between 1,600 and 2,800rpm. The powerplant of the Fortuner GR Sport is combined with a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox that only transfers power to all four wheels.
