All-New Skoda Scala Hatchback Officially Unveiled

All-New Skoda Scala hatchback is now official, all-set to replace the Rapid hatchback from the concerned markets. The Rapid is available in sedan body-type in India, based on the Volkswagen Vento frame and getting the same engine options. Internationally, Skoda Rapid hatchback is a different car and will now feature the MQB A0 platform under the Skoda Scala name plate. The next-generation compact car from the company is built by taking inspiration from Vision RS concept. The design idea for Scala was first seen at the Paris Motor Show through this concept, bringing quite a lot of changes to the car. The standard version comes with a decent rear end while optional features include an all-glass window with Skoda lettering on the same. The move is smart for improving brand presence in countries where Skoda is not a household name. The interior update includes optional 10.25-inch virtual cockpit, floating touchscreen infotainment system and soft touch elements. Skoda Scala measures 4362 mm in length and offers 2649 mm in wheelbase. The 467-liter boot space is very impressive for the hatchback use, also being the largest available among other cars in this segment. Skoda is still retaining the ice scraper and umbrella space in the car. Scala comes with a 1.0L engine, producing 99 HP and 115 HP in two different versions. The 1.5L engine is good for 150 HP. All three versions are petrol powered while diesel 1.6L engine is good for 115 HP. The engines are available with 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. The sport chassis option will reduce the ride height by 15mm. It even adds driving modes to the car. Standard safety features include autonomous emergency braking and lane keep assist while optional features like rear view camera and adaptive cruise control.
