New Mercedes E-Class and EQG Set to Launch in India in 2024

Mercedes-Benz has maintained its status as the best-selling luxury brand in India for the year 2023, and it aims to uphold this position in 2024. In the forthcoming year, the brand expects to launch a minimum of nine new vehicles and SUVs. Let's take a closer look at each model to see what it has to offer.

1. New Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Price: Rs 70 lakh-90 lakh Launch: Late 2024 Engine: 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, 2.0-litre diesel
The sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class is slated to debut in India by late 2024, exclusively in long-wheelbase form, akin to its predecessors and this luxury sedan boasts a larger size than its forerunner and incorporates design elements reminiscent of the flagship S-Class. The availability of the 'Superscreen,' comprising a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display, and a 12.3-inch passenger touchscreen, remains uncertain for the India-spec E-Class. The model is expected to offer either a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid assist option or a 2.0-litre diesel engine. A 9-speed automatic transmission will be standard across the range.

2. Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV

Cost: Rs. 4 crore Launch: In the latter half of 2024 Battery capacity: 108.4 kWh

Mercedes' luxury sub-brand, Maybach, is gearing up to introduce the all-electric EQS SUV in India in the latter part of the next year. Adorned with abundant chrome on the exterior, signature Maybach wheels, dual-tone paint, and Maybach logos, this SUV promises opulence. The Maybach EQS SUV's cabin is anticipated to be lavishly appointed, exuding luxury with top-notch quality and materials. This all-electric SUV will be available in '680' form, powered by a 108.4kWh battery providing a claimed range of 600km on a single charge. It boasts two electric motors on each axle, delivering a total output of 658hp and 950Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100kph sprint in 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 210kph.

3. Mercedes-Benz EQG SUV

Cost: Rs. 3 crore. Initiation: Late in 2024 Batteries: Not yet determined

The electric counterpart of the rugged G-Class SUV, the EQG, exhibits similar boxy styling and Mercedes-Benz has implemented revisions to the bodywork to enhance aerodynamics and efficiency. Based on a ladder-frame chassis, the EQG is expected to be as capable and robust as the standard ICE G-Class. Notably, the EQG features four motors one at each wheel enhancing its off-road capabilities. It also boasts a 'G-Turn' function, where electric motors turn the wheels in opposing directions allowing the vehicle to execute an on-the-spot 360-degree turn.

4. New Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe

Price: Rs 75 lakh-80 lakh Launch: Early 2024 Engine: 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, 2.0-litre diesel
A stylish alternative to the more upright GLC SUV, the new-gen GLC Coupe features a raked roofline with a plunging liftback-like tailgate. Larger than its predecessor, it incorporates the latest in connectivity, technology, and features from Mercedes' parts bin. The Coupe is expected to share powertrain options with the SUV, and an AMG version with performance enhancements is likely to be offered.

5. New Mercedes-AMG GT

Price: Rs 2.5 crore Launch: Mid 2024 Engine: 4.0-litre turbo-petrol
The new Mercedes-AMG GT, larger and more spacious than its predecessor, is based on the new SL. Featuring a two-plus-two seating layout and a larger, more accessible boot, the new model is more practical and it boasts a newly developed body structure utilizing aluminum, composite fiber materials, magnesium, and steel. The two-door sports coupe is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, delivering 476hp in 55 4Matic+ guise and 585hp in 63 4Matic+ form. Transmission duties are handled by a 9-speed AMG Speedshift automatic powering all four wheels.

6. Mercedes-Benz CLE

Price: Rs 1.1 crore Launch: Late 2024 Engine: 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, 2.0 diesel

Sharing underpinnings with the C-Class and new-gen E-Class, the new CLE is a two-door, two-plus-two seater available internationally as a coupe and a cabriolet. The CLE's cabin closely resembles the C- and E-Class, featuring front seats with integrated speakers in the headrest, enhancing the sound from the 17-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system and the new model offers more room at the rear, and even boot space has increased to 420 liters. The global powertrain range includes four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with rear- and four-wheel drive options.

7. Mercedes-Benz GLS Facelift

Price: Rs 1.4 crore Launch: Early 2024 Engine: 3.0-litre turbo-petrol, 3.0-litre diesel
The refreshed GLS SUV is set to make its way to India shortly after its introduction in European and North American markets, underscoring the significance of the Indian market. Cosmetic updates on the exterior include four horizontal louvers in the grille with a Silver Shadow finish, a new front bumper with air inlet grilles and high-gloss black surrounds, and new tail lamps with three horizontal block patterns forming a new motif.

Internally, the major update is the enhanced MBUX infotainment system. Additional modifications include new upholstery options like Catalana Beige and Bahia Brown leather, a permanent low-speed 360-degree camera, and glossy brown lime wood trim. Expect 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol and diesel options, coupled with the 9-speed automatic gearbox and the 4Matic AWD system.

8. Mercedes-Benz GLA Facelift

Price: Rs 45 lakh-49 lakh Launch: Early 2024 Engine: 1.3-litre turbo-petrol, 2.0-litre diesel

Unveiled in May, the GLA facelift showcases design changes primarily at the nose. Standard LED lighting all around and body-colored wheel arches replace the black plastic on the outgoing model. Minimal changes in the cabin include an updated MBUX infotainment system, interior ambient lighting, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is anticipated that the present diesel and turbo-petrol engines will persist.

9. Mercedes-Benz GLB Facelift

Pricing: INR 65 lakh to 70 lakh. Initiation: Early in 2024 Engine: 2.0-liter diesel, 1.3-liter turbo-petrol.

Similar to the GLA facelift, the refreshed GLB seven-seat SUV is set to receive cosmetic enhancements inside and out, along with updates to the infotainment system. The petrol and diesel engines, paired with dual-clutch auto gearboxes and the 4Matic all-wheel drive system, are anticipated to continue unchanged.
