Huawei recently announced the successor of last year’s Kirin 710, the Kirin 810 SoC that will power the mid-range smartphones. The 810 SoC processor will use 7nm processor technology, similar to the Kirin 980 Flagship SoC. It is the first of its kind for a mid-range SoC.
Kirin 810 has two ARM Cortex A76 cores which are clocked at 2.27GHz and two ARM Cortex A55 cores that are clocked at 1.88 GHz. The SoC has ARM Mali-G52 MP6 GPU, which has about 162% performance improvement over the previous generation and supports Kirin gaming technology.
The Kirin 810 SoC with ARM Mali-G52 MP6 GPU achieved 44% improved frame rate over the Snapdragon 730 with Adreno 618 GPU in GFXBench 1080p Manhattan test. It also has a 15% better frame rate in GFXBench 1080p T-Rex test. According to Huawei, the Kirin 810 offers 11% better single-core and 13% better multi-core scores compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 8nm SoC in GeekBench.
The new NPU uses Huawei Da Vinci Architecture based on Rubik’s Cube Quantitative Stereo Arithmetic Unit. It scored 32,280 points in AI benchmark, which is better than MediaTek Helio P90 and Snapdragon 855. The Kirin 810 SoC will also offer improved gaming experience with system-level AI FM scheduling technology, GPU underlying driver upgrades, HD Game effects optimization, and GPU load optimization.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) frequency modulation scheduling technology will be able to learn frame rate, fluency and the touchscreen input changes in real time can dynamically sense performance bottlenecks in mobile phone use and will improve the prediction accuracy as compared to the traditional prediction methods.
Also, GPU series optimization technology can reduce repeated instructions and GPU Overload. Gaming+ HD game special effects optimization can improve game quality, light, dark contrast and clarity. New IVP and ISP will offer the flagship image processing unit, with enhanced white balance algorithm, noise reduction in RAW image processing and more. The Kirin 810 SoC is rolled out in the Nova 5 series by Huawei, and it is expected to be seen in other Huawei and Honor smartphones in future.
