Retail sales in India’s 4.2m–4.5m SUV segment reached 75,762 units in July 2026, according to the reported model table. The total was up 61.96 percent year on year and 25.74 percent month on month, underlining the scale of demand in one of the market’s most contested categories.

The Hyundai Creta led with 18,088 units. The Kia Seltos followed at 12,541 units, giving the related Korean brands the top two positions for the month.

How to read the July result

The year-on-year increase compares July 2026 with the same month in 2025, while the month-on-month figure compares it with June 2026. Both are useful, but they answer different questions: annual growth shows the broader expansion, while monthly movement can be affected by supply, launches and seasonal demand.

These are retail figures. They should not be combined directly with wholesale dispatch numbers issued by manufacturers, because registration and factory-to-dealer data measure different stages of the sales process.

Creta and Seltos set the pace

Creta’s 18,088-unit result keeps it at the front of the segment, while Seltos at 12,541 delivers a strong second-place total. The remaining ranking includes a wide mix of established and newer nameplates, making the overall 75,762-unit result more significant than any single model’s performance.

Buyer choice in this size band now spans petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric options, along with a broad range of feature and price combinations. That depth helps the segment draw customers from both smaller SUVs and larger, more expensive models.

What to watch next

One strong month does not by itself establish a new long-term run rate. The next retail tables will show whether the 62 percent annual jump is sustained and whether the gap between the top two models and the rest of the field narrows.

For July, the headline is clear: mid-size SUV retail crossed 75,000 units, and Creta and Seltos remained the two biggest contributors.
