MG Motor To Launch 5 New Cars in India - Complete Details

Recently, MG Motor India unveiled its five-year strategic product plan as part of its effort to "Indianize" its business operations in order to "achieve sustainable growth and significant societal impact." By 2028, the SAIC-owned British business will expand its use of domestic production and sourcing across all of its operations.

While increasing its production capacity with a second plant in Gujarat, MG aims to explore cell manufacturing and clean hydrogen-cell technology in India. Debuting a wide range of zero-emission vehicles as well as new ICE offerings are also on the new agenda as MG looks to consolidate its operations for the benefit of the future.

The main objective of the approach is to significantly localise the models over the next two to four years while incorporating the newest technologies. By 2028, MG has stated that it will invest more than Rs 5,000 crore and employ 20,000 people locally, both directly and indirectly.

To greatly boost the overall production capacity from the present 1.20 lakh units, a second manufacturing facility would be built in Gujarat. By 2028, MG intends to introduce four to five new passenger cars, the majority of which will be electric vehicles, and to generate 65 to 75% of its sales from the EV portfolio.

In order to support the widespread use of EVs, MG will boost local production of EV parts through joint ventures or third-party manufacturing, as well as set up a battery assembly facility in Gujarat. Investments in cutting-edge clean technologies, such as the production of hydrogen fuel cells, are also planned.

As part of the MG Nurture programme, the business will invest in and develop India's youthful talent. In order to train one lakh students in the newest technologies, including EVs, connected cars, and ADAS systems, MG will collaborate with 50 institutes. Gender diversity in the workforce at MG is now at 37%, and the company aims to reach 50% across all disciplines.
