What changes in the Night Edition?

The main visual change is the darker design theme. The GLE and GLS Night Editions get Alpine Grey and Obsidian Black paint choices, blacked-out wing mirrors, gloss-black bumper trim and a black roof. Inside, Mercedes has added black Nappa leather upholstery, Anthracite open-pore oak wood trim and black door sills.

Feature additions and variant premium

The GLE Night Edition gets Airmatic suspension over the standard model, and Mercedes says this is the first time a four-cylinder GLE has been offered with Airmatic suspension. Both the GLE and GLS Night Editions also get a head-up display as standard. The GLS adds rear entertainment screens, which strengthens its chauffeur-driven flagship SUV appeal.

The price premium varies by variant. The GLE diesel costs about Rs 5 lakh more than the regular diesel, while the GLE petrol asks for about Rs 3.50 lakh extra. The GLS petrol and diesel Night Editions are priced about Rs 3.50 lakh and Rs 3.30 lakh above their standard counterparts respectively.

Powertrain options remain familiar

What it means for Indian luxury SUV buyers

The Night Edition is aimed at buyers who want a more exclusive-looking GLE or GLS without moving to an AMG model or waiting for a major facelift. For the GLE, the Airmatic addition makes the package more than a simple cosmetic update. For the GLS, the stronger value hook is the combination of dark styling, head-up display and rear entertainment screens.

The trade-off is clear: the Night Edition premium is meaningful, especially on the GLE diesel. Buyers who prioritise understated luxury and limited-run exclusivity may find the package appealing, while buyers focused purely on equipment-per-rupee may prefer the regular variants.
