As we already know, Anand Mahindra has promised to honour the 2021 Tokyo Olympic gold medallist, Neeraj Chopra and 2021 Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist Sumit Antil with their new SUV, XUV700, and in order to do this, Mahindra & Mahindra filed two new names in August - ‘Javelin by Mahindra’ and ‘Mahindra Javelin’ for a special edition. Now the wait is over as the XUV700 has recently been spotted at the company plant in Chakan, Pune, is a special avatar that is likely to be one of the aforementioned names.

The first noticeable difference is the gold therapy for the vertical struts and the brand emblem on the front grille. Another apparent addition is the ochre-coloured soft-touch material on the dashboard, which has the Javelin throw logo, golden stitching, and also the Neeraj Chopra’s Gold Edition XUV700 will have 87.58 with a Javelin throw motif on the rear and inside, while the Sumit Antil SUV will have 68.55 logos both on the rear and inside. These numbers denote their javelin throw in metres.

The exterior colour selected here is Midnight Blue, which enhances the golden accents. We expect a few additional golden trinkets, as well as badging on the outer body, to add to the attractiveness of the limited edition. It is also anticipated that the gold edition could be a top-spec AX7 variant. However, it has not been confirmed by the company, and the information is not available whether the next one will be a diesel or petrol version.

Other than that, any mechanical details are not available yet for this special edition. However, the brand has recently launched the XUV700 and it is offered with two engine options: a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine that produces 197 BHP and 380 Nm of torque, and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that is capable of churning out 182 BHP and 420 Nm (MT)/450 Nm (AT) of torque. Both engines are available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
