Mahindra Scorpio Automatic Discontinued in India

Mahindra has removed the Scorpio Automatic (only available with S10 2WD and 4WD) from their official website (pricing and details). The same has been confirmed by Scorpio's official Twitter handle. The company however has not stated any reason justifying the discontinuation. But many possible reasons can include poor demand of the automatic variant, some internal component sourcing issues and the possibility of a new 6-speed automatic gearbox engine in the works. The news can be correlated with a previous report stating that a new 6-speed gearbox Aisin version for Automatic Scorpio was planned by the company for the next-gen model. Also the XUV500 which is the most advanced sibling to Mahindra Scorpio already has a more refined 6-speed Aisin automatic gearbox while the discontinued Scorpio Automatic was equipped with a 6-speed torque converter from DSI. The XUV500 gets the same engine as Mahindra Scorpio but it still is slightly more advanced with transverse mounted powerful engine. The most likely strategy for the company seems that they will introduce a new face-lifted Scorpio with 6-speed Aisin automatic gearbox and it is rumored to be mated to mHawk 140 2.2 L turbo diesel engine. The engine is expected to produce a maximum power of 140 bhp and a torque of 330 Nm. The changes seen are not exactly unexpected because the Scorpio line-up was yet to get an update after the launch of 2014 second-gen Scorpio. So the update seems obvious to keep up with the pace of technological advancement. The new updated models are expected to make it to market by this year end or early next year.
