In a move to tackle the Supreme Court's order of putting a ban on new registrations of passenger diesel vehicles with over 2000cc engines, Mahindra & Mahindra, a company whose entire portfolio comprises of 2000cc + diesel cars, have downsized their existing 2.2 liter mHawk engines to 1997cc (exclusively available in Delhi).
The new 1.99 liter engines have successfully managed to bypass the ban, while continuing to deliever the same power output and torque as before. The Scorpio's engine churns out a 120 bhp of power@ 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 280Nm between 1,800 – 2,800 rpm, while the XUV500 delivers a power of 140 horses and 330 NM of torque between 1600 to 2800 rpm. The engines will paired to a five speed manual or a six speed automatic only gearbox.
The downsized Scorpio will start at a price of 9.67 Lakhs rising upto 12.75 Lakhs and the XUV500 1.99L will priced from 11.58 Lakhs onwards, with the top variant closing at 15.51 Lakhs. (ex-showroom, Delhi)
