Currently, the Thar is available in the country in a three-door avatar and is doing exceptionally well in the market. The popularity of the SUV can be assessed by the fact that the waiting period is quite long, but still, people are making reservations for it. Its lifestyle off-roader design and capabilities make it enticing for the younger generation. With the introduction of the 5-door variant, the fame of the Mahindra Thar will be extended to the next level.

It will compete with the future Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha, both of which will supposedly get five-door variants in 2023, but no official confirmation has been made. R. Velusamy, Mahindra Senior Vice President and Head of Automotive Product Development, has stated that the 5-door Thar would be built on the Scorpio N platform, which is based on a significantly modified Thar 3-door chassis. This platform is made up of 81% high-strength steel.

The five-door Mahindra Thar will be more practical in order to appeal to a broader audience, especially families. With the inclusion of two extra rear doors, the overall length and wheelbase may increase to accommodate more people, resulting in a bigger trunk area. The forthcoming Thar 5-door is likely to be powered by the same engines as the Thar 3-door, Scorpio N, and XUV700. However, the power and torque figures may be comparable to the new Scorpio-N.

Mahindra is continuously working on new models to expand its Indian vehicle portfolio, and recently it launched the 2022 Scorpio-N. As part of its plan to bring electric vehicles to the Indian car market, on August 15th, Mahindra will reveal five new electric SUVs that will offer the Indian brand global exposure under the Born Electric series. It also intends to extend its lifestyle off-roading vehicle by offering a 5-door Thar.

Currently, the Thar is available in the country in a three-door avatar and is doing exceptionally well in the market. The popularity of the SUV can be assessed by the fact that the waiting period is quite long, but still, people are making reservations for it.
