Kia Sonet Gears Up for a Grand Reveal on December 14

Kia's Sonet, a compact SUV that has garnered praise since its launch in September 2020, is due for a mid-lifecycle update. The facelift, scheduled for a grand reveal on December 14, 2023, is anticipated to bring significant changes to its aesthetics and internal features.

Exterior and Interior Overhaul:

  1. Distinctive Design: While the China-spec model offers a glimpse of the facelift, it's crucial to note that the India-bound Sonet will boast unique front and rear bumpers. Expect a redesigned grille, updated headlamps with new LED Daytime Running Lamp elements, and fresh alloy wheel designs.
  2. Tailored Interior: Inside the cabin, the facelift will showcase a revamped dashboard with updated switchgear for the HVAC system. Drawing inspiration from the Seltos facelift, it might adopt advanced infotainment and driver screens. The digital instrument cluster, borrowed from models like Venue and Carens, is also on the cards.
  3. Safety Upgrades: Kia is reportedly standardizing safety features across the range, with six airbags becoming a standard offering. Moreover, there are strong indications of integrating the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, a feature already present in its sibling, the Hyundai Venue.

Powertrain Options:

  1. Petrol Variants: The Kia Sonet facelift is expected to retain its existing petrol lineup, including the 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine. Transmission options for this variant might include a 5-speed manual gearbox.
  2. Turbocharged Power: The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, generating 120hp and 172Nm, is likely to continue, with the 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as transmission choices.
  3. Diesel Performance: The 1.5-litre diesel engine, producing 116hp and 250Nm, is anticipated to persist, possibly offering a 6-speed iMT and a 6-speed automatic.

Competition and Pricing:

The refreshed Sonet will continue its rivalry with other compact SUVs in the Indian market, including the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger. Given the anticipated upgrades, a marginal price increase is expected. Currently priced between Rs 7.79 lakh and 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the facelift might see a slight bump in its price range.

As Kia gears up for the unveiling of the Sonet facelift, the expectations are high for a refreshed and enhanced driving experience. The blend of exterior aesthetic updates, interior refinements, and sustained mechanical prowess positions the Sonet as a formidable player in the competitive compact SUV segment. All eyes are now on the official reveal to witness the evolution of this already impressive offering from Kia Motors.
