Kia Sonet Diesel Manual Returns with Facelift

As the highly anticipated Kia Sonet facelift is set to debut on December 14, a recently leaked brochure has provided comprehensive details about the upcoming model. Beyond the expected design enhancements and interior refreshments, the leaked information unveils a significant mechanical update – the return of the diesel-manual powertrain to the compact SUV.

Mechanical Revival: Diesel-Manual Powertrain

The Sonet facelift will reintroduce a regular manual gearbox to its diesel engine lineup, alongside the existing iMT semi-auto gearbox. This marks a departure from Kia's earlier strategy of exclusively offering iMT gearboxes with its diesel engines. While the iMT and torque converter automatic gearboxes for the diesel engine will remain, the return of the manual option provides more flexibility for potential buyers.

Diverse Trim Lines and Features

The Sonet will maintain its three distinctive trim lines – Tech Line (HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+), GT Line (GTX+), and X-Line. Each trim line will feature unique styling elements and interior upholstery options. The 1.2-litre petrol engine will be exclusive to Tech Line trims, while the turbo-petrol and diesel engines will be available across the entire lineup.

Innovative Features for a Modern Driving Experience

Several new features will make their debut in the Sonet facelift, enriching its offering. These include a 360-degree camera, an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, a new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, powered front driver’s seats, and traction modes for the automatic variants. However, it's worth noting that many of these advanced features are likely to be limited to the higher-spec trims.

As Kia continues to evolve its popular compact SUV the Sonet facelift aims to strike a balance between mechanical diversity, distinctive trims, and the integration of cutting-edge features setting the stage for its official unveiling on December 14.
