Kawasaki Sales Report: 204 Motorcycles Sold in Feb 2018

Kawasaki Sales Report: Kawasaki India is recording healthy number for most of its superbikes that fall under INR 10 lakh (ex-showroom). In Fact, not even a single unit was sold for bikes that fall around INR 20 lakh and come through the CBU route. Starting with their highest selling Indian motorcycle, Kawasaki Ninja 650 scored 50 units in sale during 28 days of Feb 2018. It is quite a healthy number as Mahindra Mojo was just good for 49 units during same period. Kawasaki Z900 and Vulcan S were good for 40 units each, taking total number of bikes sold to 204 units. Each unit was priced at INR 9.98 lakh and thus, can be counted equal to 20 odd commuters in terms of price ratio. It would have been hard for Kawasaki to sell 600 unique commuters but 30 Ninja 1000 were good enough for improving their net turnover. Versys 650 and Z650 were good for 17 and 15 units respectively. This shows that Indian market is still preferring full faired bikes over adventure and street specific models. Ninja 300 was expected to sell more than usual but it just got 10 buyers last month. These trends show that buyers are more interested in middle capacity bikes than lightweight bikes of India. Even ace rival Yamaha R3 got 8 units in sale during this period. Another reason for fall in Ninja 300 sales could be the wait of buyers for Ninja 400 in India. It is expected to get high levels of localization and thus, pricing may not vary by a huge margin. It feels like Kawasaki Ninja 1000 has eaten into sales of entire liter class segment as zero units in sale was recorded by Suzuki GSX-R1000, Honda CBR1000RR, Yamaha R1 and Kawasaki ZX-10R.
