Hyundai Stargazer Set to Challenge Maruti Ertiga in India

The Hyundai Stargazer, showcased at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2024, has sparked interest as a potential rival to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in India. This MPV stands out with its unique design featuring a connected LED DRL strip across the front, quad-pod LED headlights and sleek LED taillights embodying a futuristic aesthetic.

Interior and Features

The cabin of the Hyundai Stargazer shares resemblances with the pre-facelift Hyundai i20, offering a similar dashboard layout and a set of features that emphasize comfort and convenience. Available in both 6- and 7-seater configurations the Stargazer ensures flexibility for families and groups. The interior is designed with practicality in mind offering multiple storage solutions and neatly integrated bottle holders.

Equipped with modern features such as an 8-inch touchscreen, connected car technology, wireless phone charging and auto climate control the Stargazer caters to the needs of tech-savvy passengers. It also boasts advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including lane-keep assist and autonomous emergency braking, enhancing safety alongside up to six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and electronic stability control (ESC).

Powertrain Options

The Hyundai Stargazer is available with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers 115 PS and 144 Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. This petrol-only offering focuses on providing a balanced blend of performance and efficiency.

Prospects in India

While the Hyundai Stargazer presents itself as a strong contender in the MPV segment, its launch in India remains uncertain. Hyundai's current focus on the 3-row SUV segment, particularly with the upcoming facelift of the Alcazar, suggests that the brand is prioritizing offerings that cater to the growing demand for SUVs over MPVs like the Stargazer. Despite this, the Stargazer's unique design, versatile seating arrangements, and comprehensive feature list could make it an appealing choice for Indian consumers if Hyundai decides to introduce it in the future.
