Ford Mustang Mach-E Registered as a Trademark in India

Ford, after applying for a design patent for the next-gen Endeavour in India, has now trademarked the Mustang Mach-E nameplate, hinting at a potential re-entry into the Indian market. The Mustang Mach-E was initially confirmed for an India launch by Ford shortly after it concluded local operations in 2021.

Ford Mustang Mach-E: A CBU Import

The Mustang Mach-E is expected to enter India as a completely built unit (CBU) under an import rule permitting up to 2,500 units without homologation. While it's anticipated to be a premium offering, likely exceeding Rs 1 crore in price, it stands to benefit from the lower GST rate for electric vehicles.

Ford's recent decision to reconsider the sale of its Chennai plant, despite multiple offers from carmakers like Vinfast, MG, and Tata Motors, suggests a potential re-entry into the Indian market. However, the carmaker has yet to make an official announcement.

Mustang Mach-E: Details and Specifications

Internationally, the Mustang Mach-E is available in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, with standard and extended-range variants. The entry-level RWD model features a 72kWh battery, delivering 269hp and 430Nm of torque, with a range of 470km. The range extender variant utilizes a 91kWh battery generating 294hp and 430Nm, boasting a claimed range of 600km.

The AWD version with the 91kWh range extender produces 351hp and 580Nm of torque, offering a range of 548km. Finally, the top-spec GT AWD variant, equipped with the 91kWh battery, delivers 487hp and 850Nm of torque, with a range of 489km. While it's premature to speculate, it remains to be seen which variant of the Mach-E could make its way to India.

If introduced, the Mustang Mach-E will enter a segment populated by luxury EVs such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE, BMW iX, and Audi Q8 e-tron
