MG has unveiled the Blackstorm edition of its Hector mid-size SUV adding a dark-themed variant similar to the Astor and Gloster Blackstorm editions. This special edition, priced at Rs 21.25 lakh, is offered exclusively in the Sharp Pro trim, just below the top-spec variant, and is available for both the 5-seater Hector and the 7-seater Hector Plus. This version features an all-black appearance and was influenced by Tata's well-liked Dark editions.
Exterior Features
The Hector Blackstorm edition enhances the SUV's presence with an all-black theme. The chrome elements typically found on the grille and badging have been replaced with black chrome, providing a more subdued and sleek appearance. Optional dealer-fitted accessories include red highlights on the headlight housings and ORVMs, adding a touch of sportiness.
The SUV boasts aggressive style, as evidenced by its profile which features 18-inch all-black alloy wheels with red brake calipers. The rear retains the standard Hector's design but features black chrome badging to align with the overall theme.
Interior and Features
Inside, the Blackstorm edition ditches the regular dual-tone interior for an all-black theme with contrasting red accents, mirroring the external design cues. A 14-inch portrait-style infotainment screen, linked car technology, a panoramic sunroof, red ambient and footwell lighting, a motorized tailgate, and ventilated front seats are just a few of the many features that remain in the cabin.
Safety
Safety features in the Blackstorm edition remain robust, consistent with the regular Hector. This includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, ADAS technology, and electronic stability control.
Engine and Transmission
The Blackstorm edition maintains the same engine options as the standard Hector: a 143 PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 170 PS 2-litre diesel. The diesel variant is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the petrol version is available with a CVT, excluding a manual option.
Pricing and Competition
With a modest premium of Rs 25,000 over the standard variants, the Hector Blackstorm edition is competitively priced between Rs 13.98 lakh and Rs 21.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The Hector Plus prices range from Rs 16.99 lakh to Rs 22.67 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes directly with Tata's Harrier and Safari Dark Editions, as well as other SUVs like the Mahindra XUV700 and Hyundai's Creta and Alcazar.
With this debut, MG will be better positioned to compete in India's thriving mid-size SUV market by appealing to buyers seeking a fashionable, feature-rich SUV with a distinctive aesthetic appeal.
