Exclusive Spy Shots: Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV Unveiled as Tata Curvv's Rival

The automotive world got its first clear look at the Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV, which was recently spotted completely undisguised. Poised to launch in late 2024, the Basalt is built on Citroen's versatile C-Cubed platform, shared with models like the C3, eC3, and C3 Aircross. This new model aims to capture the attention of consumers in markets such as India and South America, where stylish yet practical vehicles are in high demand.

Design and Aesthetics

The spy shots, taken by automotive enthusiast Sriganesh, reveal a design that blends the ruggedness of an SUV with the sleekness of a coupe. The Basalt's exterior features square-shaped LED headlamps, dual LED daytime running lights, and wrap-around tail lamps, complemented by a coupe-style sloping rear windshield. The vehicle also sports robust cladding on the door sills and rear bumper, enhancing its adventurous look. It stands on striking multi-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels, adding to its charismatic presence.

Interior Features

Inside, the Citroen Basalt continues the modern and sophisticated design language of its siblings. It is equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, offering extensive connectivity options. The SUV ensures comfort with features like automatic air conditioning, ventilated front seats, engine start-stop functionality, keyless entry, and power-adjustable ORVMs with an auto-dimming IRVM.

Performance Specs

Under the hood, the Citroen Basalt will only offer a petrol engine option, moving away from diesel. It houses a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine, identical to the one used in the C3 Aircross, which delivers 110 horsepower and 190 Nm of torque. Buyers will have the choice between a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, catering to diverse driving preferences.

Market Position and Competition

Expected to be priced starting around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom), the Basalt Coupe SUV is positioned to compete above the C3 Aircross. It enters a fiercely competitive segment that includes established models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara, as well as upcoming vehicles like the Tata Curvv and Mahindra XUV Coupe. Citroen has not skimped on safety, equipping the Basalt with six airbags, a rearview camera, parking sensors, hill hold assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

The Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV, with its combination of style, performance, and advanced features, is set to make a significant impact in the compact SUV market, offering a fresh alternative for discerning buyers.
