Dodge Charger Transforms: From V8 Muscle to 6-Cylinder Turbo-Petrol EV

The eighth-generation Dodge Charger has been unveiled, marking a significant shift in its legacy. The iconic muscle car is moving away from its traditional Hemi V8 engine, offering a choice between a straight-six turbo-petrol engine and a battery-electric powertrain.

Petrol Engine Details

The new Charger Daytona features a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre Hurricane straight-six engine, derived from the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. This engine, known as the Sixpack, delivers two power outputs: a 'standard output' of 426hp and a 'high output' of 558hp, with all-wheel drive as standard.

Electric Powertrain Details

The electric version of the Charger, known as the Scat Pack, is equipped with dual permanent-magnet synchronous motors and silicon-carbide inverters. The standard configuration produces 639hp and 850Nm, which can be temporarily boosted to 679hp using the Powershot overboost mode. This setup allows the Scat Pack to accelerate from 0-96kph in just 3.3 seconds, despite its hefty weight of 2,648kg.

The battery supports fast charging at rates of up to 183kW, enabling a 20-80 percent charge in 27 minutes.
