The Hero Mavrick 440 has been unveiled, which is Hero's version of the Harley-Davidson X440. Both Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson collaborated to develop the new 440 platform, but they've taken different approaches in designing their bikes. Here is what sets these platform siblings apart.
Design
The Hero Mavrick 440 is a muscular roadster with a low-sitting round LED headlight, a robust fuel tank with integrated extensions, and a sleek rear end and it has a distinctive look that stands out in its segment. On the other hand, the Harley-Davidson X440's design resembles Harley's larger bikes like the Nightster or the V-Rod. The tank, side panels, and rear fender add visual weight to the design although some feel the tail section could have been better executed. The Harley has a more imposing stance largely due to its larger front wheel and tank shape.
Hardware
Both motorcycles share the same frame but differ in suspension. The Harley features more premium suspension with a USD fork and twin shock absorbers at the rear. In contrast, the Hero Mavrick 440 has a standard telescopic fork and twin shocks at the back and the bikes also have different wheel sizes. The Mavrick 440, being a roadster, has 17-inch wheels at both ends, while the X440 has an 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel-like cruisers. This means they may ride and handle differently.
Features
Both bikes offer similar features such as all-LED lights, dual-channel ABS, and Bluetooth-enabled instrument clusters. However, the Harley comes with a more modern color TFT display compared to the simpler LCD unit on the Hero.
Engine
Since they're based on the same platform, both motorcycles share the same air and oil-cooled engine. They have the same peak power of 27bhp at 6,000rpm. However, Harley's engine produces 38Nm at 4,000rpm, while the Mavrick's engine delivers 36Nm at the same rpm.
Price
The Harley-Davidson X440 prices range from Rs 2.39 lakh to Rs 2.79 lakh for the top-spec 'S' variant. Hero will announce the price of the Mavrick 440 in February, with deliveries starting in April. The Mavrick is expected to be priced below Rs 2 lakh, significantly lower than the Harley-Davidson.
