Volkswagen Taigun SUV Teased Ahead of Official Launch: VW Taigun SUV made its debut last year just ahead of the 2020 Auto Expo. According to the company, the concept of Taigun refers to the energy of the Taiga Forest. The preview of the concept was specifically made for India and now the brand has dropped a new teaser video of the production-spec model of the Tiagun SUV ahead of its official launch.
In a statement, Volkswagen said that they are ready to launch the Taigun in India sometime in mid-2020. VW Taigun’s launch will, however, be preceded by the production-spec Skoda Vision IN, known as Kushaq, that is all set to hit the floors in March 2021. Both the SUVs are based on VW Group’s MQB-A0-IN platform.

The product is tech-laden with a virtual digital instrument console and the latest infotainment software with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Under the hood, the India-spec VW Taigun will be available with two turbo-petrol engine options- the 1.0L TSI engine and the bigger 1.5L TSI engine from the Vento and T-Roc. The 1.0L engine produces 110hp and 175Nm while the 1.5L engine produces 150hp and 250Nm. The 1.0L TSI engine will offer a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission while the 1.5L TSI engine is likely to come with a 7-speed DSG gearbox as standard. VW Taigun is expected to get a starting ex-showroom price tag of around INR 10 lakhs and it would be competing with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

This platform has been specifically developed for India with a very high level of localization, thus a customer can expect the product to be priced at par with the segment and given that they are SUVs with a premium badge at a reasonable price. Taigun is quite similar to the VW T-cross that is sold abroad while the one sold in China is quite similar to India-spec model of the Taigun and it gets a lot more bling to suit local preferences as compared to the European-spec model. Most of the body panels feature clean and mature lines which clearly defines that it is a Volkswagen product. [caption id="attachment_591922" align="aligncenter" width="1640"]
