The Volkswagen T-ROC SUV was launched by the brand in India last month with a price tag of INR 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This price tag is introductory and thus the SUV will be priced higher in the coming weeks. The director of Volkswagen India, Mr Steffen Knapp, recently revealed that the SUV is almost sold out and he also stated that the car could be locally assembled. The brand has launched the SUV under the relaxed import norms that allow companies to sell up to 2500 imported vehicles annually.
As the T-ROC SUV is almost sold out in India, it surely has motivated Volkswagen to assemble the car locally. The Director Mr Steffen Knapp said that there is a lot of pull, and their one obvious opportunity is P&C (Parts and Components assembly). He further said that they will not go with a fully built unit here.
Currently, Volkswagen imports this premium sub-compact SUV to India from Portugal. The design language of this SUV speaks for itself as it is quite unique. The cabin of the car will remind you of the brand’s conventional dashboard design that is used in other models as well.
Mechanically, the SUV comes powered with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-petrol, TSI engine that churns out 150HP of maximum power along with 250Nm of peak torque. It comes paired to a 7-speed DSG gearbox as standard. It reaches from 0-100 kmph in just 8.4 seconds and has a top speed of 205 kmph.
The SUV comes featured with a first-in-segment Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) which is basically a cylinder deactivation system in layman’s terms. When the driving pattern is moderate, this system deactivates two out of the four cylinders on the basis of required rpm which helps in reducing fuel consumption.
The deliveries of the Volkswagen T-ROC SUV were scheduled to commence from this month but due to the current situation, it is not possible as India is currently going through the second phase of nationwide lockdown to fight the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
