MG ZS EV Debuts in India; Launch in January 2020

MG Motor had recently showcased the ZS EV all-electric SUV in the country at the NuGen Mobility Summit 2019 in Manesar, Gurugram. Today the brand has officially unveiled the car along with the key specifications and features. The brand will launch the ZS EV in the Indian market in January next year while the SUV will be assembled through CKD kits at the MG plant in Halol, Gujarat.
Speaking of its introduction in the domestic market, the all-electric SUV is the country first internet car. Nothing has yet been disclosed about the pricing of the EV yet it is being speculated that the ZS EV will be available at a price tag of INR 20 to 25 Lakh (ex-showroom, India). The car is expected to hit the market by the end of January 2020 and it would be competing with the recently-launched Hyundai Kona as both belong to the electric crossover segment.
The mechanical specifications of the MG ZS EV include a liquid-cooled 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor that is capable to deliver a total range of over 340 km on a single charge.
Apart from that, the motor generates a maximum power of 143HP along with a peak torque of 353Nm, which can easily power up the vehicle to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds. The battery that is present in the MG ZS EV gets an IP67 rating which means it can resist water and protect itself from dust. The electric vehicle also features 3 driving modes and 3 levels of regenerative braking.
Talking about the battery performance of the SUV, the ZS EV’s battery can charge from 0-80% within 50 minutes via a 50kW DC fast charger, while the 7.4kW AC home charger will take around 6 to 8 hours to fully charge the battery.
Some of the new features that ZS EV consists include Co2 saver, an in-built SIM card for smart connectivity options, real-time maps, etc. In the initial stages, the car will be retailed at only five locations namely Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.
